if separatism is only polling at 28% even when the questions are phrased most generally for it, how much bigger than a partisan issue is this really? do we truly expect that even all the American meddling will be enough to turn a 28% into a 51%?
The short but unsatisfying answer to the question Dave poses is: it will take all of us.

I'm grateful to all the conservatives who stand up to the nonsense coming from separatist leaders. Because this isn't a partisan issue.

It's much bigger than that. daveberta.substack.com/p/whos-going...
Who’s going to stand up for Canada in Alberta’s separation referendum?
The time to stand up for a Strong Alberta within a Strong Canada is now.

if the conflict between the relatively pro-o&g notleyites and more climate-concerned rest of the ndp outside alberta interests you, we did a couple of progress report podcast episodes in 2025 talking to both sides. it really does all come down to LEAP, pipelines, and fossil fuel policy

ISED can not be trusted with this file if they think that feeding all the consultation data into a bunch of LLMs is a reasonable way to analyze it
Canada did a consultation on a new national AI strategy, formed an expert task force to write 32 reports, then used AI to analyze the responses & reports. The result is a summary that strings together 100s of vague action items & flattens nuance and policy trade-offs into false consensus

A new poll finds that 1 in 4 Minnesota voters took part in the Jan 23 shutdown against ICE, or have a loved one who did. Of those, 38% DID NOT WORK, either because they made the choice to stay out, or their workplaces closed. By me, @thomasbirm.bsky.social, @bloomekatz.bsky.social

the content in this episode is completely good and fine and Omar is a solid host. I certainly didn't hate listening to it. this being a Real Talk product is so weird though
In case you missed it—the AFL has a podcast now, featuring president Gil McGowan and published under Ryan Jespersen's "Real Talk" brand.

QA continues to lead the way on unionization and collective action within the games industry. For developer unions, the wins and solidarity from QA unions has been instrumental to success and motivation.

They are the unsung heroes in so many ways and deserve more respect for their critical work.

The one thing you can take to the bank in the 2020s is that if a plutocrat pitches a futuristic megaproject, it's a crypto scam. Every time.
Obviously this is a setback but I think it's important not to let it discredit the concept of building a long, extremely narrow glass city in the middle of the desert. www.ft.com/content/036b...

I have various feelings about Engler for various reasons, but this ruling is very concerning to me as a criminal law professor. I hope the decision gets appealed, because if mass-emailing police (or politicians) counts as criminal harassment then I’m not sure what doesn’t.

I've been studying the history of US, and indeed, global policing my whole career and I can't make it more clear to law makers that this isn't a bastardization of policing, it is its purest form and logical conclusion. The impunity, militarization, deference, legitimacy, racial targeting, etc.
