I ain't often right but I've never been wrong. Typically posting about active transportation and bike lanes, the Oilers, the Grateful Dead, bbq, or whatever random thing pops into my head.
Team Batty went to the Oilers game tonight. Edmonton scored the tying goal in the last minute of the third and the winner in the first minute of overtime. The team was just upping the entertainment value for the girls I guess. (And somehow the scoreboard had the wrong score at the end)

What a finish. Lots to dislike about that game, but damn, it sure was fun in the end.

Nurse is Quinn’s favourite player, so when I bring her to a game there are always two or three times when I want to yell about his most recent boneheaded play but have to just keep it inside. Like, for example, the second Columbus goal tonight.

This team is absolute dog shit away from home. Even scoring first, you’re just waiting for the inevitable collapse.

Quinn played a little volleyball at school this week and somehow that turned into us going out to watch the Golden Bears and Pandas play tonight. Wins for both, by the way.

Wasn’t thrilled about missing a Saturday night Oilers game… but I guess I’ll have to thank them for that in the morning.

Always happy to see Bo Levi Mitchell lose. Even if that means Danny Maciocia and the Alouettes win.

Weekend reading: Where America stands, one year after Trump’s election.

A fascistic movement controls the government; they are trying to build an authoritarian state; but they have not consolidated authoritarian rule.

A democracy no more, but not a stable autocratic regime yet.

Escalation, Authoritarian “Normalization,” or a Democratic Turnaround?

The lack of self-reflection in this op-ed by the board chair of the Better Edmonton Party says a lot about why the party lost the mayoral election. Even with a $2 million war chest and a big head start they couldn’t convince more than 30% of voters that Tim Cartmell should be Mayor of Edmonton.

Sigurdson has offered no explanation for his vote. Apparently “this choice was not made lightly.” That’s all we get.

So this reads like: I didn’t think people would be that upset about us trampling on their rights, and it’s unfair that I’m being criticised for it.

Looks like I successfully navigated this temporary solo parenting stint.

Emily’s on a plane home. The kids are off to school. Nothing burned down. We still have the same number of kids we started with. Are those high bars to clear? Maybe not. But I cleared them.
Day 4 and I just discovered my wife bought some Lunchables to help out with the girls’ lunches. Three thoughts. In this order.

1. That’s really nice. Very helpful.
2. Or maybe she thinks I’m borderline useless.
3. Odd that she didn’t mention these. No, she probably did and I wasn’t listening.
On Day 3 I got talked into buying Disney on Ice tickets for later in the month. I fear that I’m losing control. Also possible that I never had control.

Personally, I'm not stoked about the idea of a Liberal majority.

Minority governments are better for democracy (despite the instability) because they require compromise and collaboration.

With a majority, CEO Carney would be in full effect.
Dimitri Soudas, former Harper comms guy, told RadCan this morning that he's hearing Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux will cross the floor to the Liberals today.

If this happens, the Liberals are one seat short of a majority. You know what that means.

That's right.

Elizabeth May is Kingmaker.

Even the NYPost would tell them to tone it down a notch.

The National Post is owned by an American hedgefund - Chatham Asset - and can best be thought of as a sort of Canadian pdf version of Fox/CNN.

In terms of information value, I would rate it just below fishwrap.
This might be the most unhinged thing you read this morning about last night.
