I ain't often right but I've never been wrong. Typically posting about active transportation and bike lanes, the Oilers, the Grateful Dead, bbq, or whatever random thing pops into my head.
This picture makes me think I should lose a couple pounds. Alcohol is good for that, right?

Grey Cup Saturday starts early with the Spirit of Edmonton breakfast. How much vodka and orange juice is too much? Time to find out.

I didn’t realize northern lights could be this pink.

Team Batty went to the Oilers game tonight. Edmonton scored the tying goal in the last minute of the third and the winner in the first minute of overtime. The team was just upping the entertainment value for the girls I guess. (And somehow the scoreboard had the wrong score at the end)

Dropped my wife off at the airport four hours ago. Since then the girls have had gymnastics and now we’re enjoying pizza (and a beer for me). So far this solo parenting thing is a breeze.

When you curl on Friday but, you know, Game 6.

I’ve been working on a redesign of the traffic garden in Arvada and today the City is doing a pop up to trial some of the ideas. I think it looks great and can’t wait to see a few kids take their bikes through it.

More curling. Pros this time though. And beer too, obviously.

I was thinking about going to bed but a fire a couple blocks away suddenly has me wide awake.

The good news is it was under construction, so at least nobody was inside.

Our Friday night curling league kicked off tonight. And also Friday night beer drinking at the curling club.

Receiving campaign donations from people who have also donated to the UCP isn’t inherently a bad thing. But issuing a statement about transparency while sharing misleading information absolutely is.

I guess we’re going to Winnipeg this November. I’m sure this is a decision I won’t be questioning later on.

I’ll take the two points. Deserved or not.
October 15, 2025 at 1:31 AM
The story through two periods tonight has been Stuart Skinner.
October 15, 2025 at 12:53 AM
I missed the first period but just got this from my brother. Might have been a good period to miss.

If you have to watch the Oilers blow a three goal lead, winning tickets and watching it from these seats is the way to do it.
October 9, 2025 at 5:39 AM
A graph of the franchise’s goal differential follows a similar pattern, but all those 1980s goals couldn't be completely undone by the Decade of Darkness. Since a 10-4 win over Pittsburgh in March 1982, the Oilers have had a positive all-time goal differential.

Ever wondered how that win-loss differential looks across 50+ years of Oilers hockey? Well then, here is a graph that shows it.
October 8, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Hell yeah. Just got an email from the Oilers saying we won a pair of tickets to the season opener tomorrow. Pretty nice surprise.

This “gear up for curling season” email is perfect. Brooms, clothing, shoes, flasks. Everything I need for a successful year at the club.
October 4, 2025 at 6:29 PM
This is obviously spam, so it’s not really important, but I would never respond to a request to “vibe on something.” I’m actually annoyed that I read that.

For the record, I don’t think this is the kind of thing the Premier of Alberta needs to issue a statement about. Interesting though that I can’t find a similar post from Premier Smith following the attack on two Democrat legislators—Melissa Hartman and John Hoffman—in June.

I would think almost all Edmontonians want these things. I’m not a believer in Mr. Cartmell being able to deliver anything close though.

Win or lose, at least these pork tenderloins are going to be delicious.
September 2, 2025 at 12:21 AM
Up close for night number two.
