A brief intro as there's a steady flow of new folks. I've been a publishing freelancer for about 20 years. Educational publishing is my home base but I try to expand beyond it, especially since the world of textbooks is ... all the things it is right now.

I had a baby die in my arms of pertussis some fifty years ago. It was a HORRIBLE death. But my fellow nurses said to me, "It's almost stamped out now, they're all getting the shots, we won't be seeing this again."

I'm being mean (if only in my head) but I immediately thought of a crop of writers who would be unchanged by this.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.
As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

Do you know *just how many* Oz-related stories I've written in large part because I grew up with a small town library whose kids' section was half the size of my living room? There was a shelf of Oz books. I read them several times.

Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.
So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.
