“Good afternoon. My name is [redacted] and my wife and I have been at OMDC since April 15 2025,” reads a handwritten note, wrapped around a lotion bottle that was thrown by a man held captive inside the Otay Mesa Detention Center (OMDC) on Sunday. “It’s cold here all the time and the food is poor,” the missive continues. “For 280 days we haven’t eaten a single piece of fruit, banana, apple, orange, or anything fresh. Starmer's reported condition - incredibly unpopular, shorn of authority, probably un-reelectable and yet will stagger on for want of an alternative - is just the new normal of how Britain is governed. It was also true for two-thirds of May's premiership, half of Johnson's and all of Sunak's.

- lung lesions in bottlenose dolphins
- harm to the livers of minke whales
- orcas + dolphins less able to successfully reproduce

Micheál Martin has been a TD for 37 years. He’s been in government for 25 of those years and in cabinet for 20 of those years. He’s been either Tánaiste or Taoiseach since June 2020.

We detected incredibly high levels of cancer causing PFOA near this plant's discharge pipe in the 'protected' River Wyre. Our findings prompted a multi-agency investigation which has recommended people not to eat locally grown fruit & veg - now, they've found elevated PFAS in eggs near the site.

Drug users have long known that the police don't have to follow the law. They made carrying clean needles legal in Miami, organizers gave printed out cards for people to show the cops. The cops laughed and threw them in the gutter as they arrested people anyway.
Many people who use criminalized drugs are organizing to fight back against, or simply refusing to engage with, drug prohibition (Boyd and MacPherson 2019; Kerr et al. 2006; Zigon 2019). Drug War agonists, as well as many scholars, argue that prohibition is, and always has been, primarily a means of selectively enforcing laws in order to control and dominate certain classed and racialized segments of the population in the service of power structures (Alexander 2012; Boyd 2017; Levine 2003). There are many documented examples of police officers quite explicitly not following the letter of the law when carrying out Drug War violence, such as when laws were changed in Miami in 2016 to legalize the possession of syringes, the result of lobbying by harm reduction activists (Lupick 2017:102). People were even given cards by harm reduction organizations explaining the change in these Miami laws in case of police harassment, but the cops continued arresting people for ‘drug paraphernalia’ anyway: “Anticipating some confusion to linger around the change in drug laws, the IDEA Exchange [a syringe exchange program] distributed needles with a card that explained the program. … The actual statute is there, plus a statement saying that whoever is in possession of the card is not breaking the law by carrying a needle, even if an officer finds evidence that they plan to use it to inject drugs. But some officers did not respond well to drug users claiming they knew the law better than police. ‘The cops would pull the syringes off people and say, ‘This card doesn’t mean shit,’ and they would throw it in the gutter,’ Tookes [an IDEA organizer] says.” (Lupick 2017:102)
