At Wendy’s you can’t sub the chicken nuggets for an equivalent sandwich in their Biggie Bag combos. That’s Calvinism.
yeah it's basically used as a synonym for stern, humorless, inflexible (a cousin is "Puritan"), and then you just attach a bunch more vibes to that and boom you get "Calvinism"

Each Wednesday the Pope holds a general audience, during which he engages in catechesis (teaching aimed at formation in Christian faith). This morning Pope Leo XIV announced that this year's catecheses will focus on the documents of the Second Vatican Council. This is a really big deal.

In a nation ruled by supremacy and all its many sabotages of the public good, every act of repair is a defiant act.

*Every* act of repair is a defiant act.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

Re: providence and its mysteries: Do I appreciate the Reformed tradition because of a retcon of Batman Beyond?????? 🤔
I won't lie, my values as a person were touched by how much I appreciated this episode as a teen. Handling regret, acknowledging and loving the people who love you, accepting the unanticipated providence at work behind the plans we make vs how they actually play out...

Actually Magi as three Pokemon representing three gifts would rock

gold = Steel type
frankincense = Fire
myrrh = Ground (maybe Grass too)
Magi Power Rangers when 🕯️

Also (I am probably out of my depth here, philosophically) if God truly is simple, then God's eternity is inseparable from the fact that He is personal: eternity WANTS us. Eternity, like being, isn't a quality God "has" but rather is that which God IS!
The thing about eternity that rocks is that it's genuinely inconceivable to us, and that God has broken into time to share it with us anyway

Ok this made me laugh
One of my favorite films, A Man for All Seasons, depicts the martyrdom of St. Thomas More, who chose his conscience over the bullying of a king. How could this possibly apply to us?

Well, friends, Charlie Kirk risked his life denouncing another “king” (MLK)

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

Playing with a working definition of theology for an intro course tomorrow. Thoughts? What do you like? What am I missing?

“Theology is the prayerful study of the living God, revealed to us in Scripture, for our ongoing worship of God and love for the world.”

My one real comment on the Jan 6 5 yr anniversary is that it was carried out by rich people. The poor hick stereotype is incorrect. It was rich people, suburban millionaires and their backers. We know this from who was arrested. It cost money to go to DC, stay at fancy hotels, fund this, etc.
Scores of now-pardoned Jan. 6 insurrectionists will gather from 11:45am for a march to the Capitol starting at the Ellipse.

One insurrectionist who says he's attending: Enrique Tarrio, who was sentenced to prison until 2045 until Trump intervened.

I thought about this last weekend. I’m starting to see this expressed more and more, among both my secular friends/family as well as evangelicals, that “it doesn’t really matter when we celebrate Christmas, as long as we’re together.”
As I was saying to someone at church today, it’s really important to hold fast to liturgical time and thus principal feasts so as not to allow secular time, with its emphasis on practicality and ruthless efficiency, to take priority.
The Magi reading may have been used, hymns about the them may have been sung, Epiphany chalk may have been blessed, but per BCP it still wasn’t Epiphany which always falls on January 6.

After years of parish ministry I understand the impulse to move it. But the rubric at this time is what it is ⚓️
