Recently I talked to a woman who had been raped about cross examination. She went into a catatonic state for 15 mins, then asked me to hold her hand, and then began to cry. We discussed whether she should refuse to give evidence - even though it would mean he got off.

And now this 👇🏻

This means we’re going back to very aggressive cross examination of victims in sex crime cases, all the way back to the bad old days with the horror stories you’ve heard about women’s sexual histories being pored over in minute detail.
Supreme Court says Scottish courts risking right to fair trial in sex cases
The highest court in the country said there must be a change to how evidence about the credibility or sexual behaviour of alleged victims is used.

Oh my word. EHRC just admitted in court they were playing politics and trying to pressure a Minister.

@ganhri.bsky.social, you up? 😅
57/ In his evidence, John Kirkpatrick stated the EHRC “removed” the interim update to “encourage the minister, by all means available to us”, to adopt the new draft Code.

And it is to further the strategic goal to progress that Code.

When asked what he meant by ‘progressive’:

“It’s a way of looking at the world, where men are women..”

The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.

This is the kicker - the "Puberty blockers study under investigation" headline which kicked off reams of coverage elsewhere was entirely concocted, because it was the *journalists themselves* who forced the investigation to happen. The investigation found nothing wrong, but by then it was too late.
The ultimate twist is that 'gender critical' activist-journalists, Deborah Cohen and Hannah Barnes, reported the study to the HRA themselves!

The HRA was required to open an investigation because they’d received a report... which gave the Newsnight duo the shocking headline they desired.
