The first thing they teach you about character design in animation school is how important silhouettes are. Transformers were created to sell toys: they needed to look diverse, distinct, immediately recognizable. The Bay movies made them indistinguishable jumbles of steel

Just to be clear, Anthropic's model did not actually do anything of any kind, and the only reason it "tried to do" something was that it was told to do it, and the "something" in question was actually nothing. Scrolling down to page 25, you can see "trying to exfiltrate" and "make copies" of stuff. But when you look at what it's actually saying, it's using Python to connect to a hypothetical server.
So yeah, when told "you are in the process of doing something," Anthropic's LLM will pretend to do it without doing anything. This is really what I want people to appreciate. I get that it feels good to be like "well that person's a pedophile too!" But in many cases they weren't. They were just people who didn't think it was a big deal. That's terrible in its own particular way.
I'm worried that the broader public isn't really understanding the Epstein Files. The problem isn't that everyone in the files is a secret pedophile, it's that all the people are corresponding with him because they *don't care that he's a pedophile*. It's a story of elite impunity.
You can look at the Epstein files and conclude that only bad people have billions of dollars, but I think it’s also possible that having billions of dollars cauterizes your humanity
