My favorite thing about Pluribus is how much it feels like a book. It sets up this world and a relatively basic premise and then immediately starts exploring that premise and poking at the rules and constraints. I don't really see that outside of fantasy novels with magic systems.

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.
If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

Trad guys insist that they should be the bread winners while the women folk stay home and cook, clean, raise the kids, do basic admin work like schedule doctor visits and handle money and then the trad guy will insist all of that was voluntary and not actually work when things go bad.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.
