Kind of mean to name her after both sides of the civil war.

I don’t think we should allow the secret police to round people up and sort them by race
More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...
Idaho families sue over immigration raid that swept up hundreds, including U.S. citizens — NBC News
About 400 people, including children and U.S. citizens, were detained for four hours while they were denied food and water in the raid, according to the lawsuit.

above this in my TL: a thread on sci-fi AI broadly. “Why did we make a digital slave?”

IMO, here, same reason “AI” is being shoved into every crevice of the real world: to save us all from the burden of responsibility.

Krypton chose death doing nothing over living with responsibility for anything.
Rewatching the premiere episodes of Superman: The Animated Series. The entire first episode is about climate change deniers trusting an AI over their top scientist

The AI knows the planet is doomed but prioritizes self-preservation. They're so desperate to be ok they believe it

This is 1996, btw

I wonder what effects it will have to have these LLMs ingest hours upon hours of right wing propaganda. Probably fine.

“He doesn’t agree with the phrase ‘abolish ICE’ because he said there are too many interpretations for it…”—we have been here before. “Abolish ICE” is a demand; it is clear. Don’t let electeds turn a policy question into a comms strategy debate so they can dodge stating they oppose the demand.
Stay for this bonkers interview with Rep. Adam Smith about his financial support from Palantir, facilitators of the ICE panopticon.

Again, there are no moderate Republicans. This is one of the most extreme voter disfranchisement bills in American history.
The House just passed the "SAVE America" voter suppression bill on party lines; Cuellar was the lone cross. This is going nowhere in the Senate.

Yeah it’s wild a bunch of academics are critical of one specific type of AI that allows students to submit a bunch of BS with made up citations and a bunch of authors and artists don’t like the one specific type of AI that steals their work. Totally unreasonable
Once again: people are angry for very good reason, and this brand of post is perhaps one of the most tedious and bewildering. Practically every social media platform is rabidly pro-‘AI’ so are govts, academia, companies. This one small space being critical of AI is okay, I think.

Notepad should not know what the internet is. If you have notepad talking to remote servers you're already like 10 steps into a "factors leading to" slide.

What the heck are they doing over there
The AI features added to Notepad created a critical exploit vulnerable to loading a compromised txt file.

The fix is part of Patch Tuesday, so update your systems.

AI is not a feature I ever desired in Notepad. I should look into some alternatives...
AI-upgraded Notepad now exposes Windows users to critical exploit
A critical remote code execution vulnerability found in the AI-upgraded Windows 11 Notepad has fueled renewed criticism of Microsoft's forced AI feature creep.
