Never forget that the reason they are so convinced you’re all getting paid is that they are all getting paid.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.

This is not materially different from Josef Mengele. The concept is to deliberately expose people to serious harm so you can gather more data on what you already know will hurt them. It's not some big coincidence the Nuremberg Code expressly prohibits everything resembling this kind of "science."
RFK Jr. appointee Kirk Milhoan has just clearly stated, out loud, that he wants to experiment on the people of the United States by seeing what happens as vaccination coverage plummets and infectious diseases spread.

The problem is that techbros, deliberately I assume, mash genuinely-useful machine learning together with almost-entirely-useless LLMs/chatbots and called the lump "AI".

The former will be helpful. The latter will not, but IMO that's what techbros can flog to a broad and gullible audience.

You know, Europeans can feel whatever they want to feel about this situation, that’s fine, but actually, I have never blamed a country for its dictator, especially in places where wealth equality is staggering and where larger powers exert enormous influence on elections.
This man is talking about stealing a country at gunpoint from nations the US is allied with. Of course Europeans hate us. You would feel the same way if you were in their place. American voters put this man in power, he didn’t seize it this time.

if newsom can't commit to protecting the victims of fascist violence, then he cannot count on those victims to vote for him. it's really that simple. bsky.app/profile/popt...
I just want every liberal to know in advance: if he becomes the nominee, he will lose bc of shit like this. No self respecting queer person is going to support him, and that'll be enough to keep him from the presidency.

it is true that donald trump is very unpopular, and almost everyone outside his hardcore base hates what's going on right now

but what that hardcore base is willing to support is extremely disturbing and I'm not a fan of sharing the country with a lot of these folks
I was actually fine not knowing my neighbors and most of my family would be Nazis just because Donald Trump tells them to be. Ignorance is fantastic actually.

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

One of fascism’s most effective weapons is the idea of inevitability. It tells you that events are already decided, that resistance is pointless, & that there aren't alternatives. Once people accept that story, they stop imagining change, & when imagination disappears, so does the power to oppose.

Shutting off comments because I am not one of those people who thinks the only way to beat fascism is to overlook Democrats' complicity in getting to where we are. I voted for Kamala, I vote the less awful of two candidates every time even if I'm grinning and bearing it. That will continue. However.

They expect us to hold their hurt feelings as more pressing than our very lives. They’re not unclear about Ross killing Good. They’re trying to “but technically” their way into publicly saying she deserved to die like that.
Sorry, what? The federal “investigation” into ICE’s killing of an American is investigating the *victim*?

Dismantling DHS is an entirely achievable goal for Democrats at this point.

You can have Fox yell at you for being a radical leftist or whatever, but you're going to have endless images of paramilitary goons assaulting people on TV, and voters will associate you with wanting to end that.

I mean this so seriously. Please don’t read it as “doomerism”.

The phrase “personal responsibility” is eugenic rhetoric.

This is exactly how eugenicists spoke 100+ years ago. AMERICAN ones.

Agree, and it needs to be clear that celebrating urban spaces is not denigrating rural ones, but it *is* refusing to agree with the long-held assumption that rural spaces are morally superior or inherently more authentically American.
Not saying Dems should ignore suburbs and rural areas, but I think they need to put forward a vision celebrating urban and diverse spaces. It is what scares a lot of people about Mamdani, because he gives people that sort of vision
One of the reasons I push back as hard as I do on "cities are scary" nonsense is that I do not accept the view that we should treat unfounded fears as legitimate, and we have too long indulged the unfounded, racist fears of conservatives. And that in turn is leading to a moment...

Renee was deeply loved by many. Her mom described her as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known.”

This is who we lost yesterday.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.
