Nobody is immune to propaganda, and that's why I left that place in Nov 2022. There's no "winning" or "fighting the good fight" against an algorithm that is designed to warp reality

Overhearing my dad's phone conversation with my grandma

Dad: just because he was anti-trump doesn't mean he was a good person!
Dad: he was still a very bad guy!
Dad: he shot his friend!
Dad: he thought his friend looked like a bird!

And that's how I found out Dick Cheney died

Remembering MN house speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and their beloved dog Gilbert. Murdered in June at their home by a rightwing Trump-voting evangelist, who also shot another MN lawmaker and his wife at THEIR home, 9 and 8 times, respectively (miraculously, they survived).

Good god, this. This is so important, has been used to hurt so many trans kids, and dealing with this exact thing--where people skim scholarly articles and wildly misunderstand what they say--is a big reason why I do science articles on Stained Glass Woman.

Our funding depends on usage.

So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

All historians know the sinking feeling of tracking an "authoritative" reference back through several generations of writers to an unsourced assertion by someone nobody's ever heard of.

Now AI can make up new ones in no time at all.
From my own academic research, even pre LLMs there was a huge danger of zombie factoids that begin in a respectable publication by mistake and then get reprinted for decades because no one is backtracing to the original source. Once bad info gets into the system it can take years to clear it out.
I've seen numerous examples of this in recent days - we're at a point where some reporters are using LLMs as a source and not even remotely properly factchecking, but also where LLM generated material is making its way into other material and being unknowingly reproduced by others.

This book is so good and important!!!
As Dem politicians like Pete Buttigieg throw trans athletes under the bus and efforts grow to erase their records, I highly recommend this book on how fascism shaped modern sports to ostracize queer and BIPOC people and naturalize gender hierarchies.

I've been thinking a lot about Albert Memmi and Judeopessimism lately

I think I'm becoming a Judeopessimist, alas

You just can't convince most Gentiles (OR Jews!) to bother learning what antisemitism really is or how it works, let alone combat it in themselves

Anyway, I wrote this a while back:

The Jewish people have moral frameworks for this moment.

It is a choice not to heed them.

Please let us meet this moment, let us see the shattered Temple around us, right now, and our responsibility to it.

Currently(/before), there are not enough mental health & substance use treatment beds/facilities, and this does not add anything, which only leaves imprisoning people
