And just to be explicit, in these people's worldview, disabilities are seen as an illness.
There are a vast number of people in the U.S. who are otherwise reasonably intelligent but they profoundly believe to their very core that if you get sick, you must've done something to deserve it. This is why our health care system is so berserkly cruel.

I blame John Calvin.

That moment when I thought I had missed a big hangnail because there was dried blood gathered up against the nail bed (not unusual when the weather is this dry)... But then realized it was actually chocolate from the rather messy hazelnut croissant I had with breakfast. 🤦‍♂️

It drives me nuts when a terrible person dies, and we are all supposed to pretend they were great, like telling the truth is somehow uncouth.

Brigette Bardot was a truly despicable racist, homophobe, bigot, and lifelong supporter of fascists. Acknowledge her work, I guess, but don't celebrate her.

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

I've been in a rut with reading for a while - I've paused like 3 books cuz I wasn't feeling 'em (but still want to finish eventually, so didn't DNF).
Anyway, after seeing numerous recs, I picked up Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Y'all.
This is what I needed.
I blew through 30% of the book just today.

So much this.

GenAI is trash, built on fraud, and should be fired into the sun along with the billionaires supporting it.

LLMs are incredibly powerful and USEFUL (when deployed smartly).

Conflating the two only benefits the grifters.
The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks

My first JoCo was 2019.
When I walked into the cruise terminal on embarkation day, there was a massive banner hung over the check in desk. I don't remember what it said, but it was welcoming and nerdy.
That's when I knew.
A question for our returning cruisers: When did you first KNOW that you were a JoCo Cruiser? Was there a moment? Was it on the ship or elsewhere? Tell us about it!

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

I really do not care if the guy who has raped kids is from my political party. My moral philosophy is that you don't rape kids, and there is nothing you can do that earns you a get-out-of-raping-kids-free card.

Stopped and got Taco Bell after my haircut this morning.
I have a consistent habit of over-ordering there, and then feeling ill after eating too much.
As usual, I over-ordered today. BUT UNusually, I restrained myself and left one taco uneaten, and now I don't feel gross!
Yay for self control! 🎉

Re gender affirming care for youth: They will come for the haircuts and the clothes next. And it won’t stop with kids or trans people. And I’ve been telling people this for a decade and now here we are with lots of cis people shrugging and saying it’s unfortunate. How are you going to save a life?

Felt inspired me to watch this tonight, and while doing so unlocked a forgotten memory of seeing Jason Mraz in concert on Halloween in ~2005ish, and for the encore the whole band came out in random costumes, and played Big Bottom (complete with a double-neck bass).
Today in The December Comfort Watches: This is Spinal Tap. Because it's one of the funniest movies of all time, and I think Rob Reiner would want us to remember to feel joy, even, and especially, when surrounded by sadness.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

Scroll back up to read the whole thread, but this is the cruz of it.
Bluntly, Section 230 is almost literally the law that the entire internet rests upon, it makes it possible for user generated content to exist on the internet, it’s incredibly important, and genuinely we must defend it at all costs. This place literally would not exist without it.

This is, uh, not a smart move. Section 230 has its flaws, but repealing it without having an *extremely solid* plan in place to replace the protections for free speech it offers is tantamount to banning the LGBTQ+ community and others from public online spaces.
Sen. WHITEHOUSE: We finally are moving to file a bipartisan Section 230 repeal bill. Waiting any longer serves no useful purpose.
