In truth, it's actually more sophisticated to try and figure out what exactly it is you like about the thing and say that, and it's even more of a compliment. "I like this!" is great, but "I like this, the colors are so vibrant!" is better
I’ve sometimes fallen into the trap of thinking that complementing a creative person for their work is less sophisticated or desired than discussion or debate about it but very often the best thing you can say to them is hell yeah and that doesn’t make you dumb it just makes you nice

Today on the winter blog, Herman tries to sell apples while evading the law (I may have mixed the comic strip character up with the cartoonist there).

I was recently commissioned to draw an offline/banner image for the Twitch channel SaltCommittee, featuring the four main members doing what they do. Had a lot of fun making it, and I think I captured their essences quite well. Take a look on my portfolio site:

The newspaper comic strip Krazy Kat, created by George Herriman, premiered on October 28, 1913. The characters had previously appeared as a side strip to The Dingbat Family. Krazy Kat ran until Herriman’s death in 1944.

I agree with the large majority of this, but he lost me at the part where he said he still uses AI, just not AI art. I'm assuming he means an LLM of some sort. It makes me wonder why he thinks that's okay while thinking AI art is not.

"The Internet From 20 Years Ago" is still there. Blogs and personal websites are still a thing (and are easier to set up than ever). Webrings are still a thing. I mean, even things like Finger and Gopher protocol are still things. All you have to do is start using them.
Is it terribly “old person” of me to say I want the internet from 20 years ago back?

Blogs! Websites! Forums! All that!

I find it odd that any time I hear anyone talk about "webcomics" they're more often than not talking about comic book style, full page, continuity comics and newspaper style comics are never brought up. There are just as many of both styles. They are both just as valid.
1. I wish people don't dismiss four-panel, newspaper style strips as "lesser". The medium is just as valid as graphic novels.

2. I hate the mentality that comics must be printed in color in order to sell. Like, you guys do know that most mangas are printed in B&W and they sell like hotcakes, right?
Anyone have a particularly hot comic take?

As much as I like Peanuts, I have to admit that the space allotted to Peanuts reruns would be better used to give exposure to strips that are still creating new material, whether they’re new strips or reboots of legacy strips. The entire run of Peanuts is readily available in books and online.

Remember: the medium of comics is the printing press.
Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.
