I was recently asked if I had any tips on cultivating a writing practice. Here's ten of them! I elaborated on these in my newsletter (linked below)
1. Remember that everything is research
2. Start with specificity
3. Use timers
4. The blank page is never truly blank
5. Play with your mode of writing

Years ago I went through a phase of putting chicken legs on ... stuff?
Everything I've ever made has always been a bit absurd and self-indulgent.

For example: here is a breakfast radish on legs, which I made of wool and wire.

Ugh, I can’t stand this publishing startup. They pay people to write fan fiction — they tried to commission a story from me. 831 Stories was founded by MBA brains who saw how lucrative romance is as a genre, and their branding targets lit snobs who think they are better than romance.

831 Stories is all-in on the romance genre, and the founders are cultivating a whole world around the books they publish, complete with fanfiction and merchandise.
With 831 Stories, romance fans get more than a steamy read

part 1 is all about freud. part 2 is both lacan and irigaray. the phenomenon of the "coexistence of the dual" that constantly reoccurs as a theme in part 2 is irigaray's framework of sexual difference. lacan is of course the language of how desire in part 2 operates

having artistic influences never stops feeling like. Type of humiliation you feel when you bring a reference photo to a haircut and you're like I know the guy in the picture is hot please ignore the part where he's hot I'm obviously not asking you to make me hot

As said a lot of times:
- this needs to go on until they accept defeat
- your calls and emails should remain on the topic and make a complaint about your inability to spend money on legal things
- ask for a case number, ask for a supervisor, send mail if they ask to the @ given
- it's a marathon
Visa employees clearly told to deescalate ASAP
MasterCard employees more than familiar with the issue
Stripe feeling the pressure
ACLU put out a statement
CBC covered all this

What you are doing is WORKING
You are getting RESULTS
KEEP CALLING
KEEP WRITING
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!!

Yeah, I worked in customer support and, if it's a 'peak' of one day, they will not care. They'll wipe their hands and say "ok, volumes are back to normal, it's fixed"
If after a week they are still receiving pressure... Then they'll begin to get nervous
we are going to need to keep up this 'yelling at payment processors' energy for more than just today

Ideally, we will need to keep up this pressure over a span of a few weeks

As many people as possible, each making 2-4 calls a day, for a few weeks, is going to make the biggest impact
