Honestly, I think that the presumption that water can be fought for is actually a false presumption born of the assumption that anything can be seized with military power, given enough of it.

It's really underestimating how hard it is to move water and how much water needs to be moved.

hold tight buddy. we're almost home free
Someone gave our number to a collections agency. Been running defense for this dude for weeks.

Taking down numbers, "yeah yeah, I'll have him call you as soon as he gets back," putting them on hold for minutes on end while we go "check if he's around."

We got you, stranger.

I guess my new version of late night online shopping is late night buying shit from the school band fundraiser. My HS kid just texted me to say I purchased an “obscene” amount of cheese and her band teacher is worried.

I think in thirty years when the full story about what’s going on with Trump and his health and who actually is in charge and how they’re hiding everything and what is happening behind the scenes comes out it is going to be so, so, so, so much worse then we are imagining.

So, be careful not to drag with “Sleigh Ride”?
DEATH TO MIDTEMPO.

(ok yeah, slight exaggeration, but GOD.)

Ballads are plaintive, emotive, and captivating. Uptempo has urgency, pressure, and fun. It’s a *pulse*.

Midtempo is the millennial gray of music and there should be less of it. Pick a tempo on purpose.

There are a lot of layers to why this ad did not work. "It's the most terrible time of the year," is a miserable holiday message, and McDonald's solution--to come sit in their bleak corporate prison aesthetic restaurants, away from loved ones, and pay too much money for a shitty burger--falls flat.

That said, this was still an expensive ad, and it ended up being so horrendous, McDonald's had to pull it, and the companies that produced it have had to delete their posts defending their work. Undoubtedly, crisis PR has had to be pulled in, and...

I’ve posted this before but the light was perfect today- a little Victorian cat paw in a brick at the front of the old Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. As this is on the front-facing corner of the main gates, the bricklayer quite clearly put it there on purpose, at a height where children would spot it.

This is a great deal. The M-series iPads are fast and cool with great screens, and the matching pencil is convenient and nice to use.
I also have an M2 iPad Air with an Apple Pencil Pro to sell. I’m taking a rock bottom price on it. $330 for the iPad, the pencil and the case and cord. The move date is being finalized and money is more important than tech I’m sentimental about. Haggling welcome.

That's a rock bottom price even if you tack shipping on. The Pencils are really nice.

Okay, here’s the plan. We take the iPhone’s most common functions and add as much friction as possible. Three extra keypresses, minimum, to do anything. If there’s an important option, hide it in an obscure menu, the deeper the better. Nest everything.

I was told I was “bad at math” until I took precalc my junior year of high school and my teacher told me to come in on lunch breaks so she could help me understand the material. It turns out I’m good at math but the “self learning” style my school used didn’t work for me!
I do think that some people who didn’t experience being Bad at Math in the 2000s and 2010s are probably really underrating how demeaning that experience was at the time
speaking on the basis of being a humanities type who struggled with math (until I learned to program later on) who felt that society was giving me a constant message in the 2000s that I was a worthless parasite who would die in a ditch on that basis alone

I still think better critics are needed - the "AI is a scam" people or Zitron or others are just feeding off this resentment - but...yeah. Whole thread is on point.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

It's useful to note that the incidence of "some degree of dyslexia" is about 10%.

Not all dyslexics are helped by the same font features. I know one who strongly prefers monospaced fonts, which is counter-intuitive.

My #1 recc is DO NOT FULLY JUSTIFY. Ragged right helps a lot.
In other news, the whole thing about Calibri v. TNR isn't about a font face, it's about the fact that Calibri is easier for people with some disabilities to read.

They think any accommodation, however painless, should stop.

This would be a picture in a Cyberpunk dystopian novel.

That they see it as "complaining" is ultimately inhuman behavior. They do not see us as people, who want to have a life we enjoy. We are a number that is to be balanced in a spreadsheet. Nothing more.

I treat them accordingly.
