I have had a sinus infection that had, until today, kind of inflated my face with swelling to the point that it was genuinely difficult to see that I’d had eye surgery, despite the massive bruise.

Just thinking... we give so much attention (as we should!) to the victims of state violence, ie, people sent to CECOT.
But, we give little consideration to the psychic violence suffered by those tasked with carrying out the physical violence.

There’s a fountain pen in this book and it’s later referred to as a silver-tipped pen and, like, not *impossible* I guess? But now I’m hung up on the improbable nature of the fountain pen being anything but the most common: gold or steel with a tiny bit of iridium alloy.

I'm also just somewhat befuddled by someone trying to "break in" at a fantasy convention in the 2020s. like, what is the imagined scenario here, rappelling down from the ventilation shaft to hijack somebody's three-martini lunch and wow them with your elevator pitch
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +

I have enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Day breakfast and Boxing Day brunch with my brother, SIL, nieces and assorted aunts and cousins. It’s been good.
