The main reasons that 'gypsy' is considered by many to be a slur are its historical imposition on the community connected to a false origin story, its associate with negative and often dehumanising treatment and tropes, and its consistent use as a slur (as we will be seeing in relation to WH) 7/

This is possibly the longest thread I've ever seen but if you have an interest in the subject matter it is worth your time.

(If you're in the GRTS community, there are some portrayals mentioned, especially later, that are... well I thought I was sufficiently braced.)
When people say that Wuthering Heights doesn't have anything to do with race or that no film has engaged with race, what they mean is that for them Romani people do not count and they also haven't been paying attention. I'm going to share a little material from a recent talk. Content note: racism 1/

Thank you so much. A huge part of my career has been saying to people who've been through hell, "I see it too. It wasn't you. You're not wrong. This did happen. It WAS that bad." Because if there's one thing toxic systems are spectacularly good at, it's gaslighting.
A true and terrific book that stays with the reader long after. I know you didn't write it as a self-help manual but it did help with healing from toxic people and workplaces, so thank you for that ancillary benefit.

I liked it better when we were talking about the Burgess Shale.

A big part of what seems to have caused that sudden diversification is what's called the Cambrian Agronomic Revolution.

Before, in the Ediacaran, the seafloor was covered a thick microbial mat that kind of sealed everything off. But then worms (mainly priapulids) figured out how to burrow through

There’s a whole bunch more, it’s absolutely worth looking up the reconstructions—things that look like swimming tacos, things that look like worms but aren’t, things that don’t look like worms but are, things that would be nightmare fuel if they weren’t 3mm long, etc.

Get in, losers, we’re going to the Cambrian Explosion.
ZOMG LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE SHALE

Okay, so the Burgess Shale is a fossil bed in British Columbia that contains a whole bunch of fossils of weirdass creatures from the Cambrian era, over 500 million years ago. But the great thing about the shale is that it has fossilized SOFT PARTS!

For those that missed the news, I slipped and fractured my back. I was already struggling financially when this happened. I started up a Gofundme to cover my medical expenses and monthly bills. I still need $200 or so to cover my internet/phone this month. gofund.me/73a3f6eec

This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

WHY ARE YOU PUSHING THIS SO HARD?

Pre-orders mean the world. Early pre-orders open new doors for us, and for this book, and will make the whole situation better. If we can debut on the NYT Bestseller list, I will build an Alandra Sky Dreamer token deck and punish myself with math.
