I don't post my photography online anymore bc (gestures at the ubiquitous theft engines). I miss sharing creative things.

There's my quoteblog (dyk? it's at arestelle.net/quotes), but that's not the same.

I've been thinking about adding game screenshots; I like them, and it might scratch the itch.

The nanny is hiding a weird selection of mostly totally unobjectionable replies whenever I look at a thread with comments 🤨 (I already turned off the "rude" filter that they turned on by default so it isn't that one)

None can be primaried in the next cycle, Shaheen & Durbin retiring.

Rosen, Kaine, King up for reelection in 2030.

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

"Once you know you are a typical member of a class of individuals, you must act as if your own individual actions were to be multiplied manyfold, because they inevitably will be. ...if _you_ fail to do what you wish the rest would do, you will be very disappointed by the rest as well."

Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

virtue signalling is good actually
Performative decency is actually *so* important for this reason.

It tricks the 10% of ghouls into thinking that there are only 1% of ghouls.

And it makes the 30% of people that don't care one way or another follow the mostly decent crowd

For those who don’t know, Lina Khan gave tech bros hell AND her ass to kiss when she was FTC chair. She was busting monopolies left and right. Gave Amazon and Meta the finger too.

This is an EXCELLENT addition to his team.

Ask any of your favorite Black women writers from a decade ago why their bylines stopped appearing, and you’ll likely hear the same response: There is no place for us in media. In TV. In publishing or academia. For the majority of us, there’s no place but gone.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.

Very bad news. Teen Vogue was doing work other journalists were not.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
