Pinned
So. Since I've been talking about people picking lanes and working in them, I'm going to pin a list of mine - the skills I have, the topics I generally know enough about to be actually useful in the Current Situation, etc.

Also, I am open to being reached out to about any of these things!

It's Judy Blume's birthday. She's 88 today.

Back in 2013, she said, "It’s not just the books under fire now that worry me. It is the books that will never be written. The books that will never be read. And all due to the fear of censorship. As always, young readers will be the real losers."

You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.
Breaking News: The Trump administration repealed the bedrock scientific finding that greenhouse gases threaten human life and well being, meaning that the EPA can no longer regulate them. nyti.ms/4rSszQu

❤️This week on Alan Alda's podcast, talking with the guest, he said:

"...because it means an enormous amount to me what my wife thinks of me. It fills my life to the brim that she loves me & I really want to be a good partner with her."

He's 90. They've been married 70 years.

Find you someone who.

This has got to be one minimal ask—Botstein out of Bard
BREAKING: Bard College President Leon Botstein’s name appears in the Epstein files more than 2,500 times, including arranging travel to Epstein’s island and hosting a visit with “girls” on campus…

As a Bard student parent, I demand Leon Botstein’s immediate removal.

So I think everyone knows what Chuck E. Cheese is but for non-parents who don't know what LifeTouch is, it's the company that for decades has had a near-monopoly on school pictures.
Finding out that top execs from both LifeTouch and Chuck E. Cheese are in the Epstein files has pissed me off in a way that I didn’t think was still possible.

I think maybe that’s where the difference in thought I see on the general topic comes in.

To me, the Silly Pink Hats thing was more positive than negative because it was an in-group signaling, a physical reminder to each other that we weren’t alone, weren’t doing this alone.

On the other hand…
In addition, it is important to demonstrate that Trump's view of the world is not popular, it is not normal, and if a bunch of white ladies at book club wanna do that with hats, better than all of them silently thinking the others support this shit.

This is SO IMPORTANT.
Congress should act to categorically exempt statistical agency staff from this schedule.

Statistical agencies by definition do not set policy.

Their only power and purpose is collecting data & publishing credible, informative stats. Without political independence, they can't do this.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

I can’t remember the first time I saw it expressed this way or where I read it but it’s stuck with me:

“Feminists DO NOT believe that ‘all men are rapists’ - but rapists DO.”
No one thinks more poorly of men as a class than other men who desperately want to normalize their perversity. No man-hating feminist could even come close.

Every one has its own variant of both:

“fuck them kids amirite?” (Derogatory)

AND

“fuck them kids amirite?” (Literal)

While saying that they don’t do that because they’re good people unlike Those Bad People Over There who obviously are all pedos and pedo-apologists.

I’m so tired of it all.

i do think that if you find yourself spending more than a few minutes a day obsessing over what another person who's largely politically aligned with you said or did on a social media website, you gotta go touch some grass (and i am talking about a lot of people here, including myself sometimes)
