Confusion reigns as climate minister appears unaware of own announcement
The Govt says it rejected the Climate Change Commission's advice a month ago, but the commission says it hasn't heard anything from the Govt.

all polls are measurements of the possibly honest current sentiments of pseudo random participants who may or may not turn out to vote and may or may not change their minds if there was, say, an election campaign where parties tried to change people's minds
Realistically, given the margin of error in this poll and the effect of overhangs, all we can really say is that, right now, the next election is too close to call.

But coalition parties would still have a majority, according to a new Curia-Taxpayers Union poll,

We were sold AI on the basis it was going to cure cancer, solve climate change and advance our lives. Instead all it does is produce social media slop and put ordinary people out of work. I think we're entitled to feel a lot more pissed off than we currently seem to.

#nzpol Unemployment reached a 9 year of 5.3%. The labour market took another turn for the worse - unemployment growing, underemployment growing, fewer hours being worked, and wages are not keeping up with inflation. This data is another sign the economy is not working. A thread

Study after study shows that it's remarkably cheap and easy to solve the problems of homelessness and poverty with low-barrier supportive housing and universal basic income, but our own fear that someone, somewhere will get something they didn't "earn" keeps us looking for other (punitive) options.
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me
In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

Growing up, the main bus in my town was every 10 minutes and always packed. I didn't worry about timetables I just left the house and knew it would be there. Now it's every half hour and completely deserted. This is no coincidence. Fund buses properly and people will use them.

I will never understand people who claim to understand capitalism and profit, and also suggest that "the market" can deliver security or lower costs or whatever.

"The market" will extract as much profit as it can. That's the explicit goal. It's an obligation for management.

So school leavers with no resources are supposed to just move away from home and instantly get work, a place to live etc etc? How do they do that?

Does he realise that you have to have a job BEFORE you can rent somewhere, buy food, pay bills etc?
Luxon told Morning Report

"If you go outside of Wellington, to Hawke's Bay or go to the South Island... The primary industries are crying out for young people to come and join those sectors and those jobs," Luxon said

What happens if you don't want to work in the primary sector Einstein?🤦🏻‍♂️

Can't build more homes in existing urban areas. Can't build more homes outside of existing urban areas. People wonder why central government had to step in after decades of politicians appeasing NIMBYs stuffed Aotearoa's housing supply and affordability. 🤦‍♂️

We deserve, we need, political leaders who present us with ideas and with hope for better. We deserve to know what they're intending to do and why they believe their options will work better for us.

We deserve more than "look at these inept wankers, I wouldn't do that"

I made a picture!

I am not an artist at all but it was fun to draw something and then mostly ruin it by colouring it in with felt tips. (with a wash of grey added digitally after scanning it in)

I was referencing another illustration, if you know the dragon you get 10 bonus XP.
