I like shooting guns. It's fun as shit, it fucking rules. I also believe in very strong gun control, because lots of people don't use guns responsibly.

I like porn. I am starting to think that it is impossible for my fellow men to consume it in anything approaching a responsible manner.
They watch too much porn.

A thing that's striking about how Bovino is always there in-person mugging it up for the cameras: they really don't have the manpower to do this on the massive scale they want to make it look like. They can't do this to multiple cities simultaneously on the level of how they're terrorizing Chicago.

I expect Eric's right. IMO making it about ACA subsidies was a mistake (disclaimer: I work for an ACA insurer). There were other things they could and should have gotten and the ACA eAPTC expirations were already going to be major news, they didn't need a shutdown for that.
A bit of a contrarian view. Democrats likely won't pay a price for this in the midterms. The American memory is quite short on political machinations. But Republicans are about to learn a central tenet of American politics: You cannot give people a benefit and then take it away.

Former US Institute of Peace security chief testifies: “I observed members of the [DC] MPD giving each other high-fives and fist bumps as I was escorted from the USIP headquarters building.”

It’s part of a sworn declaration submitted as part of my lawsuit to release body cam footage of the raid.

This article is hilarious. Every White House staffer in it just presumes the president is an idiot and is mad at Pulte for taking advantage of him, like Trump is some helpless senior fielding scam calls.

The White House was blindsided by the idea and is now dealing with a furious backlash from conservative allies, business leaders and lawmakers.

Someone earning 150% FPL will go from paying 0% in premiums to 2.1%.

If they earn 200% FPL they'll go from paying 2% to 6.6%.

If they earn 300% FPL they'll go from paying 6% to 10%.

If they earn even $1 *over* 400% FPL, they'll have to pay FULL PRICE.

They already had this, when they passed axing ACA credits. There's no ambiguity that Republicans did that and you can attack them for it. The marginal advantage of having another vote for messaging purposes is, at best, extremely thin, and even negative if it lets some Rs cast a meaningless yes vote
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

There's an old adage that "everyone gets cut in a knife fight," (the implication being you should avoid knife fights) so if you get into a knife fight, expect it to hurt. You might even bleed out. So you better do everything you can to hurt the other guy more.

Apropos of nothing in particular.

Really happy to see her step down, despite being one of the best members of Congress from NJ. Can't wait to see who's gunning for her seat now, she set a high bar in the fight department.
Democratic Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, who is the first Black woman to represent New Jersey in Congress, announces she won't seek reelection. Watson Coleman, who is 80, leaves behind a seat that, per calculations by The Downballot, favored Kamala Harris 61-37. www.the-downballot.com/p/the-downba...

When you have no language for, or reject the concept of, what SHOULD be, it turns out that everything that happens feels inevitable and any outcome you can claim you had a hand in feels like success!

That's bad! That's really, really bad!

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.
