I agree with this in principle, but also Mamdani *is* at least one in 500,000. He's just astoundingly fast, on point, personable, photogenic & he genuinely loves people AND he's done ALL the reading so you CANNOT trip him up.

YES, many more people can win than we imagine.

But he's still special.
The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

I become more myself each passing year and I wouldn’t have it any other way
I don’t have a whole lot of advice for people younger than me but the earlier in life you stop worrying about what other people will think and just wholeheartedly enjoy the stuff you like the happier you’ll be
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

I remember @brandonfriedman.bsky.social’s annual get your finger off the trigger series
I keep yelling this at my phone when I see these photos and I’m going to start yelling it here:

NEVER. POINT. YOUR FIREARM. AT ANYTHING. YOU DO NOT INTEND. TO DESTROY.

The bigger fight? Buddy, I die without health care and your pals in the Senate — none of whom will ever go without access to lifesaving medical care — told me they were gonna fight so my premiums don't go up 50%. And then they folded.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Also we all have people we love, right.

Your aunt gets really sick and doesn't have coverage because she couldn't afford the ACA...you're throwing into that hat for those massive medical bills and to get her the lifesaving treatment she'll need...right

It shouldn't be that way for anyone.

Also if you get insurance through your employer and are sighing a deep breath of relief (while obviously still giving a shit about this issue)

understand your insurance through your employer can go up as well, and coverage offered lessened.

And if you lose your job and can't quickly find another

Catherine my good bitch you guys are the only ones who do not know where the Republicans stand
Steve Inskeep: You think the Republicans voting with you here will not only agree to these measures, but actually try to do something if the administration ignores them?

Sen Cortez Masto: If they go back on their word, then the American public will know where the Republicans stand.

I'm a healthcare lawyer and this is insane.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.
