Not to mention authors don't get just ONE purchase. Libraries tend to purchase multiple copies of popular books, they also buy the physical audiobook, and audiobook streaming and ebook rights. Obviously not of EVERY book purchased, but requested/super popular ones they could buy all of these.
Libraries purchase books. When you see a book at the library, it isn’t “free”

the library bought it.

which in turn means that the community bought it.

In other words, library books are not lost sales for authors and publishers; they’re positive sales. Active sales. Those are bought.

Many of you have been asking what our active military members have been doing in regards to the obviously questionable orders of a mentally disabled psychopath and his drunk SoW.

They're seeking outside counsel.

Which is a pretty big flashing neon sign.

I think the reason romantasy is dwarfing sales of fantasy & sci-fi is that it's a subset of romance.

And romance is the biggest, most profitable category in literature.

Romantasy allowed romance readers, who read very widely, to take cross-genre romance mainstream & it's reaping the rewards.

man, Talamasca is one of the most godawful shows I have seen in a while. I keep telling people it's like the last 20 years of media discourse has just flown straight over their heads.

Ehhh. They're gonna have this for about five minutes, and then the AI bootlickers are going to figure out how to get past the "inappropriate content" and "brand positivity" blocks and flood them with garbage.
Bob Iger says Disney+ will soon have AI-generated short form content from users

When you go to buy from an individual creator this season please remember the price at checkout (in person or online) is not what they will see reflected in their account

Fees, immediate taxes, and future taxes cut what they would make often in half

We price for that, so please be understanding!

GO GEN Z!!! What a thread!
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

CORRECT. Never stop burning with a cold rage about what happened to Isabel Fall
I'm gonna up this ante (or, wokeness) and add that considering that "we" tend to go after 1) authors with a lot less clout than certain others and 2) fan writers, and both categories tend to be more likely to be marginalised, it's hinky AF when the morality police go on the prowl about stories.

Smut is fine, porn is fine, writing about difficult subject matter or other fucked up shit is fine. Books are not capable of harming, traumatizing, or corrupting you. Mobbing an author bc of something they WROTE instead of something they DID is censorship and you're acting like a fascist. Sit down.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

i mean is the complex villain hot and sexy? I should be allowed to idolize them if they're hot
Exactly. Also, stop writing in a way that dumbs everything down so people know who the villain is because you think some of your audience will make an idol out of a complex villain.
You GOTTA stop being so desperately afraid of the audience. Look at me. Look in my eyeballs. Stop being so desperate for approval. Stop writing for the whiny babies in your audience and start writing for the freaks who like cool fucked up shit

Porn is also history and cultural commentary and a crucial contributor to sexual self- exploration and self expression. Porn has been vital to queer and trans people in documenting important aspects of our language, presentation, interactions, relationships, institutions and communities.
PORN IS ART, PORN IS GOOD, PEOPLE MAKING PORN IS A SIGN OF A HEALTHY SOCIETY
There has been a noticeable reticence in left and liberal circles to voice full-throated support for pornography, even as it's become increasingly clear what the open end goals of the censorship movement are

qrting for emphasis because yeah most of the people I see labeled as "rude" are marginalized people who got mass repleted for not putting up with bullshit
it is very telling, to me, that this place has a “Rude” label built-in when one of the things the right wing has weaponized so much online is “polite” bigotry and hate

So when a member of a marginalized group pushes back strongly against that “polite” hate, they get labeled “rude” or banned.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.
