Just trying to recapture that old Twitter feeling.
This is the sad reality and I’m glad he’s named it and that’s he our PM right now.
In a speech to the World Economic Forum, Mark Carney says middle powers such as Canada must accept that the rules-based international order is effectively dead, and great power rivalry with is here to stay. Key excerpt:

A year ago, Kenneth Turan's collection of some 4,000 books, acquired one by one over decades, turned to smoke and ash in the Palisades fire.

The question, Turan writes, was “whether it made sense, in my late 70s, to begin collecting all over again”:
I Lost My Library in a Fire
The question before me was whether to begin collecting all over again.

The passing of Paul Newman (2008), Sean Connery (2020), Sidney Poitier (2022), and now Robert Redford (2025) signals the slow disappearance of a certain type of 20th century figure: men who embodied classic style in a way that reflected their taste, rather than a professional stylist.

I’d like to toot my own horn here, as well as that of my friends, by acknowledging that this month marks the 20th anniversary of the Oilogosphere. For those who don’t know, that’s the name given to the group of Edmonton Oilers bloggers who appeared after the 2005 NHL lockout. 🧵/1

This is more or less how Brexit started. Cameron promised a referendum to head off UKIP momentum and satisfy the hardliners in his party, no one thought it would come close to passing, and well, whoops. The Premier should heed recent history and not play games. www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/art...
Smith says sovereignty referendum provides ‘outlet’ to avoid creation of new party

There’s at least one Canadian First Minister who should reflect on this. Maybe on the flight home from Florida.
Not gonna pretend like I know anything about Carney’s politics because I don’t, but I watched his speech yesterday and he essentially told Trump to fuck off and now Trump’s speaking about him with a modicum of respect.

I feel like there’s a lesson in there somewhere.
Trump drops the demeaning "governor" stuff and calls Carney by his correct title
