I used to handle interlibrary loans for a public library. ILL is a magnificent expression of the idea that readers deserve books, and books deserve readers. It’s libraries everywhere pooling their resources for the benefit of everyone.

Killing IMLS could have killed ILL.

This is great news. 📚

"Things happen" sometimes, like when you walk into an embassy to apply for your marriage license while your bride-to-be waits outside, but then you get bonesawed to pieces for having exercised freedom of speech as an US-based journalist and have to be carried out in a series of suitcases.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

The reason they have to keep making Wizard of Oz prequels is if they went *forward* then they'd have to let people know about Ozma, and Hollywood will not, absolutely will *not*, ever allow that to happen

A lot of Prestige Press types insist that Trump's candidacy did not appeal to racism, but Trump himself obviously thinks it did and is delivering for his constituents.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I worked at a K-Mart in high school when that already-failing company instituted its oven version of this ten-foot rule … and uh harried, busy big-box shoppers don’t really like being continually greeted by random employees.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Tell everyone you know to boycott Spotify. There are plenty of alternatives that don’t run ICE advertisements and screw over artists.

While US venture capitalists were buying monkey jpegs, and DOGE coins, and figuring out how to get Black women fired, and tweeting about white birthrates, and trying to mandate which bathroom trans kids should use, China was making progress on climate change and taking the lead in a real industry.
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

The cast-iron skillet hack for reheating pizza really is a game changer.

1) heat up a large cast iron skillet
2) vegetable oil spray, just a teeny bit
3) turn down to low
3) put in 1-2 slices leftover pizza
4) cover
5) go away for 7 minutes.

Crispy, gooey pizza!
