Got tripped up by the word “pioupious” in this Rimbaud poem and looked on the other page to see it translated as soldier, so I said it out loud with French phonetics and started laughing out loud, my main literally called them “pew-pews” like a child playing with GI Joes

I was very glad last year to see a big revival of old-school, pre-Skrillexification dubstep but was chatting about it with a British friend earlier and realized it was perhaps an indicator of a somehow even worse resurrection of the Bush-Blair era.

Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

The consequences for lying us into Iraq were not only “nothing” but outright rehabilitation of Bush as a “compassionate conservative” who was part of a noble dying breed so why should anyone waste the time justifying this one

I remember in Sunday School reading the story of Solomon and two women fighting over the baby and thinking it had to be at least mildly intended as a comedy bc the one woman is like “cut it in half? Sounds like a fair compromise” and now I’m seeing ppl earnestly ask “who is responsible for Grok?”

There were TV ads about movies about to be sealed in the Disney Vault, to be reopened again only at Armageddon. I struggle to understand how even Hollywood math justifies killing this off in favor of streaming economics which force insane upfront costs for stars bc of the death of residuals
kids these days don't know how long it could take for even a hit film to go from theaters to a VHS/DVD release. they kept it dangling! the home-video round would always got its own spate of advance TV ads!
I think the move for the movie industry isn't necessarily "make theatrical windows long again" but rather to make the window before you can watch the movie for free on a subscription service (vs renting or buying it for a one time payment) like a year.

Andor was really the first piece of canon Star Wars to scratch that itch the old EU filled and it made me nostalgic so I hauled back some of the paperbacks from deep storage (my parents’ house) and started the first Rogue Squadron book and within pages was marveling anew how badly Disney fumbled
