No son, they are not "magically delicious." The workers made them delicious. This is a slogan meant to mystify the social conditions of labor

DHS said that the woman CBP shot in the chest in Portland was “involved” in a gang shooting.

Her ~involvement~ was that suspected gang members sexually assaulted and robbed her.
After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting.

But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:
DHS’s account of two Venezuelans shot by border patrol falls apart in court: ‘A smear campaign’
Immigration officials said agent shot two ‘vicious gang members’ in Portland, but records obtained by the Guardian reveal US prosecutor contradicted claims

People forced to rely on private infrastructure that exists only to squeeze as much value from them as possible, all so investors can pass ever growing piles of money between themselves. Nothing good or useful remains so for long. Patreon, housing, healthcare. A long march to desolation. Exhausting.

80’s Gundam can be really funny in the way it’s like, surprisingly progressive but also extremely of its time. Yes, these women are fully realized characters with their own complex goals and moral compasses. AND THEY BE SHOPPING!

Really empathizing with Mashymre in Gundam ZZ, Haman would’ve had me acting like that too.

Wael Tarabishi, the last person I wrote about for the Star-Telegram, died on Friday.

Wael’s health declined rapidly after his father and primary caretaker, Maher, was detained by ICE last fall.

The Tarabishi family believes that if Maher had not been arrested, Wael would still be alive. I do too.
new: I wrote about Wael Tarabishi, a 30-year-old man with a rare genetic disorder, his father, Maher, who has spent the last 25 years keeping him alive, and the routine immigration appointment that led to ICE detaining his dad indefinitely.

Also, I wrote about Dragon Ball Z. Stay with me. (🎁 link)

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength
you don't become a martyr because you were a saint, you become a saint because you were martyred
I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”

On Thursday, 7 yr old Diana Crespo suffered a nosebleed that lasted most of the night. The next morning, Diana's parents took her to urgent care at Portland Adventist Health, but they only made it to the parking lot before they were detained by immigration officers.

Have seen many variations of this & broadly agree—but the part that struck me in the moment wasn’t “this is a microcosm for how America sucks” — it was “this is a microcosm for trying to behave democratically & respectfully of one another in a complex, evolving situation with things we can't know.”
i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

I'm glad BikePortland caught this. I wanted to make sure the public understood that conversations around PCEF and Trimet are happening in the halls, because it is a matter of public interest and there are serious considerations to weigh if we were to amend the CIP to support Trimet. My thoughts 🧵
