Among many problems this gives people who know STEM but who suck at teaching STEM a permission structure to never improve.
i've mostly experienced it as the even worse version where everyone already innately can Do Humanities just as well as the pros, but math/sciences is difficult and requires a lot of natural talent AND learning to be able to understand it.

It may well be true that even the most virtuous leaders cannot make an unfair system very much better in the short to medium term. But OTOH we're seeing now that when your leaders are all total bastards, they can make things dramatically *worse* at dizzying speeds.

I think it codes as naive to modern people when they read about pre-modern value systems that emphasize personal morality and virtue in politicians and public figures.
We understand now that no amount of personal virtue can balance out the cruelty of an unfair system.

I think this is true but it’s also even worse than this: by doing this I think what elites have inadvertently selected for is malicious low cunning and the willingness to use it as a weapon.
The paradox of the elite is that their most sought-after quality is “smart.” But they’re mostly not smart enough to tell if someone is smart.
