At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

You've got your flagrant cowardice, your too-clever-by-half DC-brained tactical maneuvering that fools no one but impresses reporters, your fealty to bipartisanship in an era when your opponents are dumping diarrhea on your head, your insane belief in the power of symbolic votes ... everything.

Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Donald Trump’s approval rating has tanked and Republican suffered heavy losses in last week’s elections. There’s never been a better time for Senate Democrats to cave on the ACA extension.

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Maybe pundits should spend more time in densely packed, left leaning urban areas where the "real Americans" live

Mainstream pundits repeatedly scolded Dems, telling their viewers and readers that the polling would turn and Dems would get blamed. Didn't happen. The pundits are living in an alternate reality mediated by Twitter and have lost touch with reality.
👀 NEW: Americans blame Trump and GOP more than Democrats for shutdown, per new @washingtonpost.com poll.

Independents blame Trump and Republicans more than Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin, 46% to 23%.

another excellent Klement substack post. TL;DR - price momentum works best in high attention stocks, earnings momentum works best in low attention stocks:

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win
everything is on fire these days, sure, but how is it that 50% of all news stories are not about how I just spent $20 on a bag of store brand coffee at fucking costco

They care more about this than any of the recent massacres of children because they see dead pundits as people and dead kids as content.
The pundit freak out is the suddenly feel like they’re targets now, they see the public is gonna just shrug at it, and they’re confronted with the monster they made. I don’t like it but welcome to abjection guys come on in the waters warm.

they like trump and want to help him and critical reporting about his health - to say nothing of the type of incessant drumbeat coverage they gave biden - wouldn't help him so they don't do it.
I just now searched NY Times for info on Trump's illness or bruised hand or health concerns - nothing came up.

They spent weeks covering Biden's age after the debate.

Their bias is quite stunning.

It's a great irony that American society and elites have fully internalized the efficient market hypothesis -- treating it as an iron law and a guide to future political economy outcomes

"if the line doesn't drop, there's no need to panic"
It's downstream of the steadfast belief that as long as equity market line goes up, there is nothing to worry about

"The market will tell us when to freak out"

I don't think this will work out as the participants expect

Fun (and by fun I mean stupid) recent trend is that every non-Trump conservative agrees it would be bad for Trump to have unilateral executive authority over monetary policy in violation of the law but hems-and-haws over applying that principle to literally any other independent part of government

One of my most moral panic style opinions is the use of “NPC” as a slur is a symptom of a societal sociopathy epidemic.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.
