prohibitionist drug policy is not about drugs – its a tactic that the state uses to expand and enforce its power over all of us, throughout every moment of everyday life
Drug policy lies are the key Trump uses unlock and misuse emergency powers to advance fascism. I wish the media would assign reporters to cover his drug war lies. Better yet, hire the great journalists who have spent years on these issues and are currently unemployed or underemployed!🧵
Of course the cartels are bad people. That’s not the question. The point is that nothing Trump proposed will reduce the flow of drugs because he constantly lies about how drugs are trafficked. He then gives a simplistic fantasy solution to a fictional scenario he invented. No grounding in reality.

Another shooting case falls apart (this time ICE, not CBP).

These are the Venezuelans that ICE excused shooting by claiming they beat him w/shovels.

If only we could charge people with lying to Congress! If only we knew how!
NEW: Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told Congress today that local law enforcement in Colorado leaked word of a raid, allowing gang members to clear out of apartments.

Those apartments were being cleared out weeks earlier.

Tonight, ICE deleted social media posts with the claim.

It is a sign of how ridiculous this admin is that Customs and Border Patrol using a DoD drone-killer in a major city without training or notifying the FAA isn't the biggest news story of the week.

I would not be surprised if the DoD takes back their toys, since CBP won't follow the rules.

The issue is that both "AI will save humanity" and "AI will doom us all" are false extremes wielded to make people feel powerless. Best to stick to the truthful middle: AI is a tool, useful and even disruptive in some fields; in other cases not useful enough to justify its (so far hidden) cost.
I spent a *lot* of time thinking seriously about this and researching it for my book. It's just not true. We don't need to spend more time giving air to AI doom cultists or AI hype hucksters. They have captured enough of the public imagination already. Here's something shorter I wrote on this:
The Useful Idiots of AI Doomsaying
Those who predict that superintelligence will destroy humanity serve the same interests as those who believe that it will solve all of our problems.

So DOD risked civilian airspace to obliterate some fucking balloons; when FAA found out and asked them to stop they refused; FAA did what it had to keep people safe; when the public rightly freaked out, DOD relented, lied, and blamed the FAA.

Sounds like Hegseth!

The GOP’s SAVE Act also requires broad voter purge programs using reportedly unreliable citizenship info from databases “updated” by DOGE (among other sources). My guess is that these purges wld result in many faulty purges of people w/ Hispanic last names, disproportionately impacting Democrats.

Most Real IDs do *not* prove citizenship. (EDLs, which are available in only 5 states are an exception) The GOP’s “SAVE” Act thus misleads when it says voters can prove citizenship w/ “a form of ID issued consistent with the reqmts of…REAL ID…that indicates the applicant is a citizen of the US…” 1/

According to multiple NYT sources, it wasn’t even military personnel at Fort Bliss that fired an anti-drone laser at alleged cartel drones. It was CBP who used the weapon on loan from DoD against a child’s party balloon they mistook for a drone. The Pentagon gave CBP an anti-aircraft weapon.
