On that last point, in the decade before COVID, a full 82% of all ICE arrests occurred at local jails and prisons, where the "arrest" was just a custody transfer.

ICE's Fugitive Operations division, which did most "at-large" enforcement, had fewer than 750 officers as of January. Seriously.

The last time a deportation officer died in the line of duty from a homicide was 1949, when an INS security officer guarding an holding cell in Honolulu was stabbed by a mentally ill man who had been detained on arrival from China.

ICE legitimately has little experience with what's going on now.

Silicon Valley's Greenland obsession isn't rational, it's part of a cult. Sometimes they say it'll be a tech hub, a "Freedom City". Sometimes they claim it's for homesteading by Americans (who are eager to farm on an ice sheet). Sometimes it's geopolitics and defense. Sometimes it's minerals. 3/

This is obviously A Critical Moment™️ on its own, but doing this before the Lisa Cook case is even heard at SCOTUS on Jan. 21 is unreal.

The soldiers who fired into the crowd were put on trial in Boston, and not sent to England, too. John Adams was their lawyer, so Boston did make a show of fairness. Capt Prescott was also acquitted when evidence did not agree whether he ordered the soldiers to fire.

The relevant briefing noting that Burlington remained a party in the district court, discussed in today's letter, appears to have been the parishes' brief — which was filed on November 13. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/24...

Alito's recusal notice came 56 days later.
