We're now seeing headlines that claim X is blocking Grok from complying with requests to undress and sexualize women. Wrong again gang — it happily stripped me, gave me bigger breasts, and put me in pornographic poses, entirely for free. All I had to do was ask.

X hasn’t really stopped Grok AI from undressing women in the UK
Meanwhile Elon Musk insists users are to blame for what they do with his bot.

You may not have realized this, but it’s possible to be trolled on the internet
3. My own observation that at least half of the accounts participating in this stuff have zero or a handful of posts but ginormous amounts of replies

I offer up for consideration: we're being invaded by bad faith actors pretending to be left of center just here to piss us all off at each other.

If Canada & others aren't willing or able to prevent Grok from being used and monetized as an automated sexual abuse tool then we really shouldn't expect any type of meaningful AI regulation to come from political leaders

A fascinating & informative thread on the racist ideological roots of the Trump regime’s ambitions of empire building
Oh gods, this is so utterly fractally wrong and transparently fractally wrong that it is a veritable tesseract of fractal wrongness. Entire new branches of mathematical topology have had to be invented to describe this level of fractal wrongness

So a thread re missile defense systems below:

Trump: "The US needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON’T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! ... Anything less than that is unacceptable."

Historians (in democracies, at least) will have a very clear idea of the peculiar character of Trump-era American fascism: scam-driven politics.

I realized how deep this runs when I read about Eric Adams' memecoin scam. This is actually a pretty deep idea, so give me a couple of skeets.

When my kids were 8, we visited Chicago. Because I was a college teacher at the time, I could only go on vacation between semesters, so we went at the end of August, when elementary school had already started in Illinois. Multiple times a day, random people would ask why our kids weren't in school.
Someone called the police on my 9 year old when she was at the park in our neighborhood by herself. The officer told me she’s not allowed to go until she’s 11… I called the non-emergency number and that officer told me there is no such rule. 🙄

The attack on Venezuela was less than two weeks ago and this is already where their headspace is
Rep. Randy Fine on his bill to make Greenland the 51st state: "We need to make sure we assert our dominance over the Western Hemisphere ... the last thing we need is Greenland to become another Venezuela where we have huge problems we have to deal with in the future."

And yet for all the horror and murder it clearly isn't working!
Two stats I just saw (and double checked)
DHS says they're mobilizing 2000 ICE agents (not sure if this has been independently confirmed given their propensity to lie and exaggerate, but they've certainly sent hundreds)

Minneapolis has SIX HUNDRED COPS TOTAL
WHAT THE FUCK

A decade ago, when Trump one the first time, I and other Black writers tried to make us see that racism — both explicit and deeply seeded — was at the root of Trump’s rise. We were dismissed even as late as last year as people attributed economic anxieties to Trump’s wins.
DO YOU BELIEVE US NOW?

Stephen Colbert had been making fun of this idea for 20 years, I had libertarian gun freaks running comment bullying on my Facebook posts 15 years ago making the exact argument & putting it in King’s mouth with “I Have a Dream” lines, & no one took it seriously
I wrote in 2024: Conservatives are using civil rights law to claim that efforts targeted at ameliorating the suffering of Black people illegally discriminate against white people. They have co-opted the rhetoric of colorblindness not to advance racial progress, but to stall it. Or worse, reverse it.

Listening to an item on CBC about how mental health & addiction problems in Canada haven’t returned to pre-pandemic levels & it makes sense. We’ve never dealt with the harms & stresses of the pandemic as a society & a lot of social influences have gotten worse

I see this take around from time to time and totally disagree. ICE just murdered a woman standing up to them. No Kings is among the largest protests in history.

The complacency is coming from elites in media, business, universities, and the Democratic leadership

The problem with a lot of people who identify as liberals is that they have a very deep status quo bias that sees any change to a system as something to avoid. But this means they accept as the status quo what authoritarians have done to their political system once it’s part of the system
I'll preface this with saying that I'm a liberal and think liberalism is good, but the mewling about training from so many Dems is an absurd example of liberal proceduralist pathology.
Chris Murphy: "The amount of training that's given to an ICE officer has been cut in half by this administration. The number of days of training they get are 47. You know why they get 47 days? As an homage to the vanity of POTUS. No wonder the number of violent incidents are going through the roof."

I can sympathize with these electeds not knowing what to do because no one who is serious would ever claim they know exactly what to do right now. But we're in this mess because Democrats dropped the ball between 2021 and 2023 and we can't afford to just hope that same strategy works next time.
