Yeah, the better working is “he’s not as productive as he thinks he is.”

This dude may be “working” from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but I’m incredibly skeptical that it’s without serious diminishing returns.
February 9, 2026 at 3:35 PM
He’s also obviously lying about how much he works

Evan does this means historians are cool now

I’m very confident that MLK Jr. would not be in favor of random arsons. Like extremely confident.
February 3, 2026 at 6:58 PM
It really does sound like some high school bullshit. Like doing arson is akin to smoking weed under the bleachers or something.

Great job, Lawyer Geoff!

This is how you write.
Even if you don't have time to read all 83 pages of Judge Reyes's opinion barring the Trump administration from rescinding Temporary Protected Status for 350,000+ Haitians, please at least check out the four-page introduction.

It's a tour de force:

this particular line is maybe the best statement of purpose i have seen for those of us who want a more militant opposition to this administration
“Let us be clear: we want the power of the state. We wish to hold the criminals of the regime accountable. We wish to seize back the public funds looted by Trump and his cronies. We wish to undo the damage he has done to the government. More than any of that we wish to rebuild.”
From Powerlessness to Power
We will not achieve any of our ultimate goals without exercising state power, and the most effective way to take state power is through nonviolent but confrontational resistance.

I’m not conspiracy minded, but I do believe the NFL secretly is the best institution in America at reading the political winds.

Like I am totally not putting it past the NFL that they could kinda see this was gonna happen & wanted to coup the good PR

CHOTINER: And the pizza place, what’s it called?

ME: Dominos.

CHOTINER: Right. And you can order from your laptop?

ME: Yeah. Well, I can also use my phone. Sometimes that’s quicker.

CHOTINER: And all the food in your fridge and pantry. When do you eat that?

ME: Now hang on a second,

The momentum seems to have shifted because the Sunday shows are treating Republicans & their allies like they typically treat Dems

Woke 2 🔜
This was a 31-point swing for Democrats. I’m not a politics reporter, but that seems like a pretty big number.

Unmarked car, no lights or police insignia. Masked armed men leap out. Victim not in the act of committing any crime. This is not how a serious federal law enforcement agency acts in a free society.

How is this not supposed to be a “right wing paramilitary force loyal to the regime”?
This is just insane. It’s only a matter of time before DHS kills another innocent person here.

How else is someone supposed to show what it looks like on the ground in Minneapolis?
January 31, 2026 at 8:17 PM
If you did, it’d likely end the conversation.

Reupping. I am Spartacus.
The most useful thing possible would be if the Palantir database became like 40% of the United States population

Now: I’m not saying everyone is a secret Democrat if only we make them realize it. But I am saying that in my experience, the tribalism effect is extremely, extremely strong
January 31, 2026 at 2:04 PM
& if you want to hear something really wild. My work has taken me to some *very* rural counties in WV.

One time, I had some sheriff’s deputies unknowingly articulate basic ideas from the “defund the police” movement, but they framed it as “this is a better use of our resources.”
January 31, 2026 at 2:03 PM
I think it’s the latter.

Ex.: I have a legal assistant. Very gracious & hard working woman. She enjoys talking politics, &, qualitatively, she’ll usually articulate basic Dem ideas—M4A seems good, Minneapolis seems bad, etc.

It doesn’t matter. She has always maintained her support for Trump.
January 31, 2026 at 1:59 PM
From WV, have a lot of family in rural-ish PA. Nail on the head.
January 31, 2026 at 1:51 PM
Yes. I discussed a related observation yesterday, &, in my experience, it’s difficult to articulate to someone who doesn’t live here.

Even in a deep red state, there are *so* many people who simply do not have deep feelings about Trump but vote for him based on loose trust
Coming from a Trumpy area: Yes.

In my experience, the local car salesman, former coal executive, the landlord who rents out various properties throughout the region—all of those dudes are much more Trumpy than your average mechanic.

The mechanic may *vote* for Trump, but they’re not the die hards.
January 31, 2026 at 1:50 PM
I feel like I run across that sort of dynamic a lot in WV.

In any other context, they’d recognize this stuff as immoral, sinful, etc. It is an uncanny ability to compartmentalize.

& even where they have zero way of defending Trump/GOP, they always find *some* way Dems are worse.
