It has always been so obvious that the backlash to MeToo isn’t about whether the abuse is happening but whether people are allowed to want it to stop

Starmer’s anti-asylum policies show how utterly clueless he is about the right-wing media’s role in politics.

He’s trying to fix a “problem” contrived by Farage, GB News and The Telegraph. He’ll never win, because ultimately he’s fighting a ghost – he’s fighting something that doesn’t really exist

Hard not to simply call Labour evil at this point honestly.
Labour have explicitly decided to make a virtue of the fact that Brexit now allows the UK to spank asylum seekers in ways contrary to EU law by taking away guaranteed financial assistance.

Speaking as a stroke survivor, it would be really cool if people stopped blaming his shift to the right on his stroke, brain damage, etc. After my CVT, I had to relearn how to read, write, and speak, but you know what I didn't have to relearn? How to not be a racist asshole.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

I sure hope it permanently takes down anyone who is implicated or ran cover for someone who is, and the sooner the better. When you clean out the stables you get clean stables.
"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Down with the sex predators, wherever they are.

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

Harm to SNAP recipients, federal workers, and others is real. In a normal democracy it’d make sense to prioritize reducing that harm in the short term.

In a rapidly backsliding democracy, harm is happening no matter what. Preventing authoritarian consolidation is the most harm-reducing move.
two contradictory ideas that i hold in my head at the same time: 1) i think the threat to both SNAP recipients and federal workers is significant enough now that even bad deals are worth making to prevent further harm, and, 2) everyone who caves now should retire in shame

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Davie did everything he could to go after leftwing politics. He axed The Mash Report and censored the Gaza documentary among other things.

But the fact that he is resigning due to Trumpist pressure is incredibly concerning. This country is being more and more captured by the American regime.
Be clear, the American far right are coming for British democracy.

"'They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,' [Mamdani] said in an interview with MSNBC last week."

This is the message. Make it clear that these billionaires aren't just worried about losing money. They're worried about losing the ability to exchange their money for power.

Rewatching Zohran's victory speech bit by bit and it's hard not to be emotional about it - it's an appeal to hope and courage but also to the fundamental idea of living in society, together. Feels like we've been starved, often deliberately, of that kind of thinking

“I’ve had Covid enough in my life I don’t need to do that again. I’m wearing this for health reasons”

Zohran and Polanski are mobilising a new type of progressive politics. One where governments work for the majority, not the wealthy minority. Where politics isn’t something done to you, but something we do together. Where hope beats millions spent on misinformation and fear.

Make hope normal again.
Zohran's campaign was his determination to make New York a city everyone can afford to live in. Huge congratulations!

His success will resonate throughout the world. A story where no one is left behind.

It's time to write that story across England & Wales too.

This is incredibly important:

we must frame tonight as a resounding victory — an electoral landslide, a mandate from the universe itself

and as a repudiation of MAGA, of Trump, and of vichy democrats

we must be relentless, we must not shut up
