Dying to defend a multicultural economic zone is very literally the definition of the American revolution. The Colonial army -- which included freed slaves, native people, and people from every European country -- was likely the most diverse army ever assembled up to that point

I’m always struck as how articulate, thoughtful and on-the-nose the “average” person on the street is - particularly at highlighting what they desperately want from our politicians.
Our reporter Cameron has been speaking to people in Gorton and Denton about the by-election. Many of them didn't want their faces on camera. But all of them had something to say about politics and how it affects them.

Love this from Russell Tovey.

Brexit continues to be the greatest act of masochistic self-sabotage the country has ever inflicted on itself.

Unforgivable. Unimaginably stupid. Grotesque in its wilful ignorance.

And people are still planning to put one of its ringleaders into No 10.

I don’t disagree with this, but…

Johnson had no morality, nor pretended to. Farage revels in his lack of morality or decency. Pigs in muck.

Starmer stood on his high moral character and values. Then he showed he lacked them. That’s a much longer way to fall, and causes a deeper betrayal.

When was the last time you felt genuinely proud of a political leader because they led by example and role-modelled the change they wanted to see?

I’ll wait…
Liverpool to Gorton & Denton and back to London in the same day!

I'll be back again this weekend - everywhere we go, people are excited about the Green Party.

Lower bills, protect the NHS, rebuild our public services.

The kids are alright! The next election may hinge on their vote. But how do we engage a (quite understandably) politically apathetic group?

Young people are now the victims of a grossly unequal world, stuck in cyberspace because we stole their communities, and stuck in debt to pay to survive.
Chuffed to be the most popular leader with young people!

Thanks, guys! 💚

A bit long but here’s Marx from the 1844 manuscripts providing an exposition of Goethe and Shakespeare on the power of money that all happens to sum up exactly where we are right now. (Reminded of this passage by Epstein’s capture of prominent academics.)

Starmer and Blair are to the right of Macmillan's Tories.

Corbyn and Polanski might seem radical, in the current political climate, but they're just on the moderate centre-left overall.

It’s surprising how many kiddie fiddlers there are in positions of power, eh 🤔
Former Number 10 comms chief Matthew Doyle – who was recently given a peerage by Keir Starmer – has the whip suspended over his ties to a padeophile.

No, not *that* paedophile. A different one.

The “Pride in Place” scheme, that Starmer was so keen to use as a smoke screen earlier this week, will actually amount to a £18.7m reduction in cash terms for Glasgow.

Is this the party of the people?
I have written alongside @patrickharvie.bsky.social to the Secretary of State for Scotland about changes they've made to Glasgow's funding.

They now risk the future of the Molendinar Centre - a vital space for Germiston & Blackhill that mustn't be left behind by new UK Gov funding policies. 💚
