Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

My beloved Cafe Bustelo is now almost $9 a brick.

That's over DOUBLE what I've been paying for most of my adult life

And I know that increase isn't because they're suddenly paying people better I hate itttt 🙃

Thanksgiving is late this year and I need some jolly, so phase 1 of Christmas was commenced today

Next week: tree

Thanksgiving is just for me and my wife. This year I got tempted to invite friends and realized, as much as I goddamn love them, it would destroy a day that's come to be about comfort, food, and just being together with my wife
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”

Look, my father was a loud sneezer. And his father before him. I come from a long line of loud sneezers. It’s not much, but it’s honest work. (We get paid for how loud our sneezes are.)

I gotta give it up to the writers tho. If NYC elects a Muslim mayor on the day Dick Cheney died, that is one hell of a slow played story arc. Every time you want to fire 2025's writers room they give you a little narrative resolution as a treat.

This will surely surprise most Americans today, but historians have recently discovered that before Donald Trump, it was actually incredibly rare for a president to demand the public execution of this political opponents and press critics.

all the AI slop out there makes me want the most aggressively analog stories out there. like I want a one-of-a-kind homemade zine someone tucked into a baggie in the hollow of a tree, and I want that zine to include a shitty hand drawn map to a treasure it may or may not take 30 years to find

I have been in bookselling or publishing my entire adult life but being acknowledged by Tamora Pierce is something I might carry with me forever.
November 21, 2025 at 12:05 AM
What if instead of forcing myself to try to read books I don't vibe with I just spend the rest of the year rereading every @tamorapierce.bsky.social book

Fun fact: I knew my wife was the one for me when I found out she had *every* Tortall and Circle book, AND all the Patricia Wredes

TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.
