"He wanted to look but at the same time he felt disgust & held back. For a time he struggled & covered his eyes. Then desire got the better of him. He rushed over & forced his eyes wide open, saying 'There you are, curse you. Have a really good look. Isn’t it a lovely sight?'"

honestly "the chatbots are essentially the fae" would probably be better for normies as a mental model
I truly think the fact that computers can now parse and respond in natural language, with the tint of a human personality, causes these systems to bypass the critical faculties of many people. AI becomes a mythcal hybrid creature, and we become fascinated in it, and grant it reverence.
It really does feel like a lot of formerly reasonable people have been infected by some sort of terrifying brain parasite when it comes to unthinking and total acceptance of using AI tools

It’s really very simple! It turns out that, when given the economic and reproductive freedom we have never enjoyed before, many more women CHOOSE not to have children than any economists expected. The desire for motherhood may not, in fact, be innate to women’s DNA!
The universality of this trend, despite *wildly* different cultural, political, economic and social differences across the world is one of the most fascinating phenomena on the planet right now.
This is actually kind of crazy and again implies it's not really any specific country's policies. But it does continue to support my "video games got too fun, more fun than baby" theory.

I’ll take your copaganda TV and raise you mainstream legal TV shows that help most people believe that, if/when accused of a crime, the justice system will always provide them with fair due process and their day in court, administrated by officials acting in pursuit of the truth.

it is really weird that publishing decided that instead of having a marketing budget, writers should just become cult leaders

The Materialists is FANTASTIC. It is very funny in places and very romantic in places but it is not a classic romcom despite what the marketing may want you to think? I adored it.

“Is it worth planting seeds in THIS soil?” is a question all creatives need to ask about EVERY so-called opportunity and collaboration (grim pun intended).
I see soooooooo many great writers putting so much of their time, effort, skill and money squarely in the lap of a really evil and untrustworthy company.

Morality questions aside: is it worth planting seeds in THIS soil, in this moment? Does it seem likely to pay off? So many alternatives!
