Find someone who loves you as much as Chuck Schumer loves not doing his job
Asked about the possibility of impeachment, Schumer says "we hope that we can have support from our Republican colleagues to put a brake on this long before it gets that far"

Publicly and repeatedly demand impeachment or resign.

If you do neither, go ahead and pack your office because you’re losing your next election.

IMPEACH NOW.

I just read "Angel Down" (a holiday gift, given my obsessive interest in the Great War and I'm sure it will be successful, and it was an impressive demonstration of craft, and perhaps it will lead some new American readers to the Great War period.

With mirth and laughter, let old wrinkles come.

You do not in fact need to pay $1 to establish an attorney-client relationship.

I feel about neo-Bundists the way I feel about people who earnestly identify as communist which is that talking about how these philosophies are obviously superior is all well and good provided you just never read any mid-twentieth century history

Look, I love poetry, and think I had a decent humanities education, but I read "call for submission" notices like this and get kinda woozy:

poetry and hybrid texts that wrestle with the theme of Disunion: a state of, where form follows the fault lines of separation...tracing the fractures of our...

Gonna co-sign this.

Wishing you could stay on vacation? Totally normal; of course work is less enjoyable than vacation, they don't call it "going to fun"

DREADING it? Something is deeply wrong. Pay attention to and act on that feeling
Lawyers, if you are dreading going back to work after a break - don't go back. Quit. Figure it out. Find a place that values you. It's the only way to live.

So, lawyer friends, a relative (DeKalb IL area) needs to talk to a family law attorney about A Lot. Custody, mostly. Her brother (drugs/alcohol) is on a psych hold after goading Family Member 3 into a fight after repeatedly calling him the N-word and a loser.

the end of a year is like a sewer.

some see a past filled with crap and regret, foul memories of yesterdays flushed into darkness but not forgotten.

others see it as a transition to something better, a rush towards transformation. Renewal. Opportunity.

both true—

for sewers imitate life.

New Year's......

The short afternoon ends, and the year is over;
Above trees at the end of the garden the sky is unchanged,
An endless sky; and the wet streets, as ever,
Between standing houses are empty and unchallenged.
From roads where men go home I walk apart

#lawsky just got a revised document from some Biglaw associate with a cover note saying it was still subject to review by "my client", and I'm like, kid, calm down.

"If you’d like, I can create an original, Housman-inspired New Year’s Eve poem that captures the same mood and imagery but is entirely new. Would you like me to do that?"

no, Copilot. I do not want you to do that.

A lifetime ago (it seems), I was on a flight from London to Chicago seated next to Genevieve Bujold and her then-toddler son. She was - even in travel-harried parent mode - so luminously beautiful it was hard not to just gawp at her for nine hours straight
When I lived in the west village Willem Dafoe and I were both shopping for toothpaste at CVS. There were so many choices he just stood there staring at all the toothpaste & my brain was broken bc I was standing next to Willem Dafoe so it felt like we just stood there together awkwardly forever
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
