I'm a law guy, not a politics knower, but "Trump illegally taxed/stole $175 billion from Americans" seems like good messaging.

Nice to see the US Supreme Court has some brain cells left.

Now we expect repayment from the tariff era and reputation harm to our Island (they called us a fraud hub with no evidence).

"almost regret" is very very funny to me
Gorsuch also tries to conscript Kagan to the major questions camp in his concurrence, prompting Kagan to write this very funny footnote saying she is not, in fact, a convert to his cause. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

Hilariously, Gorsuch and Barrett have a side-battle over the major questions doctrine, with Gorsuch writing a 46-page solo concurrence saying it's a substantive canon and Barrett saying it's a mere tool of statutory interpretation. So these two can't even agree on what the "doctrine" actually means.

The actual amount collected under IEEPA is somewhat unknown but it's likely well over $100bn. And claims are transferrable, so a small importer can sell them at a discount (say, 80 cents on the dollar) to another entity that would bundle and sue over a whole bunch of smaller claims.
I mean, yeah, we can literally see it every day. Here's cumulative since the start of 2024 per the daily Treasury statement.

Just realized how many lawyers they're going to need in the US Court of International trade, it's going to be fishing with dynamite for plaintiffs seeking to recoup tariffs paid IMO. Say it with me now, they have run out of lawyers.

Obviously the correct result (concerning there were 3 dissents), but it's amazing how the Court comes to the legally correct result when it affects their pocketbooks (see also, Trump and the Fed) and not so when it shreds Constitutional rights that may not affect the justices directly.

Don't congratulate John Roberts or the Supreme Court.

Congratulate Rick Woldenberg, the Chicago-area leader of Learning Resources, an educadtional toy company that had the courage to sue the president of the United States to save his family business.

As well as everyone else who stepped up.
