When I started my PhD, I thought we were the only crazy ecologists out there. Why? Because we transplanted 1m² alpine communities downslope to study climate change effects. Imagine thousands of plants and tons of soil flying over the French Alps 😅

This is apparently claude teasing chatgpt over plans on integrating ads..

It would be ‘death’ of a technology even before it starts. And it would essentially place itself as yet another consumer trap and not as revolutionary tech. It will live a decade and die off like social media, especially in an era of growing ‘offline’ culture.

Macquarie University’s Downing Herbarium is coming soon to the Atlas of Living Australia. Our team at MQ's Plant Ecology lab will lead this project. Digitisation grants and biodiversity resources like these are game-changers, making available vital data for ecological research and conservation.

This is awesome! We are trying to do a similar thing within European Ecological Forecasting Initiative. Would love to talk more on your experience and if we could find ways to collaborate.

I still remember when Istanbul had weeks of snow (yes, Istanbul!). When summers over 30°C felt alarming. When droughts and fires along the Aegean coast were exceptional enough to dominate the news for days. We normalize too quickly!

I start all of my presentations with this gif.
Spiralling global temperatures (1850-2025)

The last 3 years really jump out, rather like 2015-6 did when we first produced this graphic back then. Now, 2015-6 looks rather cool...

176 tiny maps (1850-2025)

Maps of temperature anomalies for each year. The progression to warmer, redder colours is evident over virtually the entire planet.

This 'small multiples' #dataviz approach is effective to show that nowhere is escaping from the warming due to us burning fossil fuels.

As a first step, we presented our preliminary near-term ecological forecasting workflow for Doñana National Park at the TIBS conference last week in Denmark. #TIBS @caragallagher.bsky.social @patriciasingh.bsky.social ❤️

PREDICT integrates ecological data from diverse monitoring networks into open, modular near-term forecasting workflows, supporting dynamic predictions under changing climate, land use, and socio-economic scenarios.

Really excited to be part of PREDICT — Platform for REsilient Data Integration and Coordinated Forecasting Tools — funded by OSCARS ✨ (we didn’t get the red carpet, though 🙃). Led by brilliant @paniw.bsky.social 👑
