Tidal Surge
If you cast tidal surge on land, you create an onrushing surge of water 10 feet high in a 30-foot cone that deals 1d6 points of bludgeoning damage for every 2 caster levels you have (maximum 10d6 at 20th level) and extinguishes all nonmagical fires in the area. Magical fire effects in

hahaha yep, Nix is not immune to danger. He's actually training to become part of the Sorcerer's Guard, the "magical police", essentially (except they are not as corrupt as the Untaught [nonmagical] police) so he's good at getting into trouble. Though part of it is from trying to save Tristan...

Don't talk to me about my 80 page homebrew doc that is trying to take Shadowrun and adapt it into a nonmagical system

#TheDragonblood: I don't know if it's specifically about my process, but there are several details of the story I've changed and later restored or otherwise regret.

A big one that I later half-restored was the date of the split between the magical and nonmagical worlds. (1/4)
Good evening #pretendpanel! Hope your January is going swimmingly. Today, let's discuss...

January 23rd: Was there ever something you changed about your process, or even in a single draft, that you later came to regret?

#TheDragonblood: There's one thing an army of mages needs a lot of, and that's FOOD.

Even when they're not using magic, mages already need to eat far more than nonmagical folk. When they are using magic, that need for sustenance only grows. (1/6)
#JanuaryWorldbuilders! Today's military/warfare related Q: How does your world's military handle food and medical care for its soldiers? Do they have MREs, or the medieval equivalent? Supply lines? Foraging off the land? What kind of skills do the medics have?

Nonmagical ranged weapons include gunpowder-based firearms, which I really do want to include in this setting despite me continuously backtracking because it's ingrained in me that guns "don't feel fantasy enough".

I'm not sure if crossbows are also common or if Felix's crossbow is a one-off. (3/9)

#TheDragonblood: Today, we're talking about fungus! In Nemoria, there's a nonmagical mold that causes encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain which can lead to confusion, memory loss, seizures and other nasty symptoms.

It also tends to grow on cannabis leaves. (1/8)

Friendly DM? Oh no, we don't do that here.
I'm a True Neutral, rules-as-written DM.

And the last I checked, Demogorgon did not have a weakness against attacks made by Good-aligned creatures, nor an immunity to attacks made by Evil-aligned creatures (Poison, and Nonmagical attacks, yes).

Sympathetic Aura
This spell functions like magic aura, except it extends its altered aura to similar items in a 5-foot radius. For this purpose, similar items must be alike in approximate shape, composition, and function, so a potion of cure light wounds targeted by this spell to appear nonmagical

Any Tinorkk who might appear to be a mix of more than one species would be extremely offended if you suggested as much. They don't like being compared to nonmagical animals in general, the way most humans wouldn't appreciate being told they look like a bat or turtle. Tinorkk can't-

Symbol of Sleep
This spell functions like symbol of death, except that all creatures of 10 HD or less within 60 feet of the symbol of sleep instead fall into a catatonic slumber for 3d6 x 10 minutes. Unlike with the sleep spell, sleeping creatures cannot be awakened by nonmagical means before this

I'm so fucking tired of "we'll never know if this extremely unlikely, incredibly unreasonable thing happened, because they didn't try" (specifically that 17 Republican Senators would have been moved to support impeachment in 2021)... Are people just incapable of nonmagical thought?

Has regular, nonmagical activism achieved obvious wins recently? Activists do what they do because it is necessary. I've been an activist since I was a teen. It never ends. We do it because our consciences demand that we do it. And magical activism helps people recharge/stay focused.

There are various magical threats in this world (often easy to detect through magic sense), but I wanted there to also be an entirely nonmagical threat to the Souled, in a world where shapeshifting can cure almost all and souls grant immunity to all harm to the brain. This is what I came up with.

I guess I was trying to simplify the problem by factoring magic out and looking at the nonmagical side of things in the not so magic centric lands to start with.

But I think I needed the reminder from you and others that magic is still an important factor to consider. (1/2)

Those probably should count as two separate questions, so let's narrow our focus to just the tech level of the surrounding lands, leaving the tech level of Nemoria as a discussion for another day.

They might still have SOME magitech, but I want to focus on the more nonmagical side of tech. (7/11)
