Correct, the luddites were a Guild-adjacent labor cartel that wanted to ensure fewer people were employed (them alone), and paid more to make less.
So something you start to discover is that a lot of movements that get used as bad words were simply maligned for political reasons.

You can tell I'm doomed because I would talk about how at a billion dollars, the kind of investment returns you can get make it irresponsible to distribute the bulk of the principal instead of investing in perpetuities and continually distributing the proceeds.
if we suddenly had a billion dollars we would feel a moral imperative to bring that down to less than ten million as quickly as possible by simply giving money to people who need it because that's literally the only thing you can do with that kind of wealth if you hope to retain a soul
If you have a billion dollars, you literally have enough money to never have to hear any criticism for the rest of your life. Just because they’re all addicted to going online and getting yelled at isn’t my fucking problem.

In a film with a lot of good scenes, this one is probably my favorite.
Teasing the Ode to Joy all film long then finally hitting it as hard as possible amid rainbows of low-angled lens flare when the *bad guys* triumph is one of the coolest things any action movie has ever done. Die Hard!
