getting kids up at the asscrack of dawn is bad for them! we’ve had actual research on this shit! it doesn’t build character, it just means they’re tired and cranky and don’t learn as well
No it's because for some of us it is more convenient to drive our kid to school than to have to get them up at 530 in the morning to be able to make the bus at 615 and then have them sit on the bus for an hour and a half on the way home too. 8 year old should not have a 530am-430pm day
What should I have expected from the hand wringing was website but people who are smothering their kids in the hope that their kid will never ever develop the independent skills to actually leave. If you're going to do this, get a dog, it's less cruel.

We make things. We build things. We imagine things that have never been built before, then we go out there, we work our asses off. And we get it done.

That’s my story. And that’s the story of Michigan.

In 2026, we have a chance to build this country’s future. Together.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

Realize I got into a funk about writing the last couple weeks because of a couple of Publishing shenanigans. Gotta focus on what you can control, Hurley. And it ain't publishing.

Trad publishing can def build you up, but just as often, it will break your heart.

They made him build an entire set of a kitchen with a hidden dry ice rig to make smoke for the shoot. He said it looked fantastic and it was the right call, but this was clearly a response to what crap AI is pushing out and the kids don't like it

its cheaper to pay artists than it is for these companies to run these models and guesd what? the plans to "improve" on this technology is to build bigger even more expensive computers
It exists now, there's no going back.. all art is derived from other artists.. im not saying i like that they stole all the art.. but it was always inevitable

Good. That's a 233 year old historic building. No one should be tearing parts of it off to build a dumbass ballroom.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation argues the White House failed to seek necessary reviews before demolishing the historic East Wing.

Editing a vid and losing it at just the sheer scale of yourself is such an experience. Like damn look at my hog build. Goes crazy. Literal pig mode.

it would probably be healthier to build an identity outside of being "mom" tbh! of which "estranged mom" is a subtype

The Trump Administration is unlawfully withholding funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law — investments Congress APPROVED to build America's EV charging network, reduce pollution, and create good-paying jobs.

We won't stand for it, and we will be taking this to court.
Together with @governor.ca.gov, Caltrans and the California Energy Commission, we’re suing the Trump Admin for unlawfully suspending two electric vehicle charging infrastructure grant programs that would reduce pollution, expand access to clean vehicles, and create thousands of green jobs.

If you put the words "LOCAL FOOL" in place of Elon Musk, the headlines make more sense. People who cover him should try it to see if it helps clear up their reporting.

and by making it a dispute over due process and the Constitution, trump made it possible to build a cross-ideological coalition against abrego garcia's removal. it was the most favorable terrain possible and it genuinely blows my mind that ostensible professionals couldn't see it.

Funny how much easier it is to destroy than to build ...

As I was grading the final essays for my class yesterday, I thought it was time to build “check if references exist” into Canvas. But that won’t help much if Google Scholar is going to be indexing hallucitations.
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

Yes it is curious. It’s because they lie.

Someone on here mocked me a little when I (gently) explained that edtech’s entire use case in higherEd is to build a higher quality training dataset than the ones AI can scrape from the internet. And to labor bust.

I don’t know how else to say it!
kind of curious about the weird convergence/timing of the right wing witch hunt in academia with the attempt to replace academia with AI slop and how these bogus "transparency" measures facilitate both. how "fortuitous" for someone.

ICYMI: Republicans cut provisions in the defense bill to make IVF affordable for servicemembers.

Why? Because Speaker Johnson doesn’t want our troops to be able to build their families.

Trump talks a big game about IVF—but he won't lift a finger to help people afford it.

Look, there’s a simple solution to private equity buying up and enshittifying the software that keeps us safe: a handful of municipal fire/rescue departments should team up, collaboratively build and share better software, and release it into the public domain. This is a common pattern!

it's also so much more time consuming to
1) style yourself for the camera
2) write whatever you're going to say
3) get enough takes that you fuck with
4) edit the takes into something watchable (including captions and stuff)
5) upload it
6) promote it
7) track metrics
8) build new profiles
it was I think better when there were ways for people who hate being on screen to make a creative living

I don’t think it’s an improvement that we’re creating a culture where everyone creative also has to be hot
