i've been going through the replies to make a list of all the best suggestions for a hater studies syllabus and how did nobody suggest mcmansionhell or any of @katewagner.wehwalt.net's other essays?? i'm going to add something
I feel certain that bluesky could immediately compile a syllabus. Feel free to reply with it now in fact
It's at least partially the hard cider talking but now I really want to explore a degree in hater studies.

Reupping this because I just read the insane article from mcmansionhell about how tearing down the east wing is good actually because america sucks
I mean this is viscerally upsetting because it's really genuinely him treating the white house like it's his own personal property; he's the king and it's his palace. No other president ever thought like this, even if they were a fucking horrible person, because it goes against our founding creed
I'm not a West Wing obsessed lib or anything but the more I see pictures of this the more fucked up I think it is. It's like he cut off one of the hands of the Lincoln memorial with an angle grinder so he could add a big gun to it.

I mean, I mentioned this elsewhere, but part of the reason that I never liked McMansionHell is specifically because she didn't seem to understand what McMansions really arere or what is bad about them. A lot of what she talked about were just "tacky mansions", which is fine, but that's aesthetics

My problem with McMansionHell was that too often it made fun of ugly, tacky mansions that clearly WERE built to the personal aesthetic of a very rich, very tacky person.
And if that is what happened, then its not a McMansion by definition; its just a tacky mansion whose aesthetic she didnt like

Yeah… Siegfried especially. It took reading a lot of @katewagner.wehwalt.net ‘s (mcmansionhell) writing on Wagner to enjoy playing the ring cycle/Wagner. If I had to play Parsifal or Meistersinger I would feel conflicted.
