@steznotstez.bsky.social Jake, the thing you need to understand is that your experience is a product of your own choices.

You don’t dislike Nazis. You love them, that’s why you hang out on Twitter and feel comfortable there.

I blame the media:

Nonviolent protests get no coverage.

Condemnation of violent protests gets coverage, even if the violence is imaginary.

Outrageous, provocative, or stupid protests sometimes get right-wing outlets covering them.
I continue to believe that one of the things that fuels this “no protests” myth is that the US is a massive and sparsely populated nation that can’t continuously and consistently converge on one central city the way, say, the French can.
I remember how I was asked, live on German television, a mere 48 hours after No Kings II: “Why are there no protests?” And three months later, as the people of Minneapolis are standing in solidarity against the outrageous occupation of their city, I’m still getting that question in most interviews.

I am a big fan of the Thin Blue Line separating order from chaos. It’s a wonderful theory that should be put into practice.

The complete and total impotence of Minnesota Police Chiefs is on display here as they admit that American citizens rights are being violated (in particular, off duty police officers who aren’t white had ICE agents pull guns on them)… but they won’t endorse protesters or protect their civil rights.
Twin Cities police chiefs say they’re concerned over federal agents and police interactions
Chief Mark Bruley from Brooklyn Park Police spoke about an incident with one of his officers who was off duty. He says she was pulled and then boxed in by several ICE agents.

Somewhere along the line we were taught to believe that education, infrastructure, commerce, justice etc would prosper best with as little oversight and as few resources as possible.

Maybe the lack of that first one is what caused all this, but people are dumb and irresponsible and it sucks.
I’m becoming socially conservative in that I’m becoming a real tightass about civic virtue & honor. Fuck your boyfriend & his husband wearing dogsuits in private if you want, I don’t care at all, but I’m becoming pretty humorless about people feeling they have no obligation to any civic project

To be fair to Senator McDumbass, he is expressing his sorrow that ICE has not yet lived up to its potential
“ICE isn’t the Gestapo. The Gestapo was…” (proceeds to describe qualities that apply to what ICE is currently doing)

The Trump admin has already lost. They will have to leave, at some point
fantastic piece from my colleague @polgreen.bsky.social that gets at something i have been thinking about. what, exactly, is the administration's strategic goal in minnesota? what does "victory" look like for trump and miller?

The Shapiro-interview debate shows how many people have never done a background check.

The questions exist so that they can sidestep litigating your past actions (based on info they might have now or may acquire in the future) and instead take action based on the fact that you knowingly lied.
Josh Shapiro writes in his new book that he was being grilled by the Kamala Harris team about his views on Israel because he's a Jew.

In college, Josh Shapiro wrote that Palestinians as a collective "are too battle-minded" and that peace can only happen if Arabs don't "ruin it".

DOJ: we don’t care if ICE agents kill innocent American citizens on the street.

Also the DOJ: disrupt a church service? Right to jail

The reasoning is something like “were chemical agents used against human beings? No, against illegals. Totally different.”
Imagine being Kristi Noem and having no problem lying about chemical agents being used in MN after you just discussed a mother who had to perform CPR on her 6 month old after tear gas filled their car while they were only trying to get home from a basketball game. Heartless.

I’m really terrified of what horror stories are going to come out of ICE’s reign of terror.
And how many women have been raped and have no where to turn? They can’t report it to police.

ICE may marginally reduce the number of school shootings by giving jobs to people who would otherwise be be school shooters
ICE/CBP is following school busses now.

My husband (a school bus driver) was just in an urgent all-hands meeting about it this afternoon.

terrific conversation with @whstancil.bsky.social about what's going on in his home minneapolis right now. at the end he puts it very bluntly: ICE is not an immigration agency that just needs some technocratic reforms. ICE is a terror agency operating under the fig leaf of immigration.

So, if I'm following all this correctly, a bunch of internet shitposters who spent years screaming "don't tread on me" and warning about federal agents stomping out people's rights... have been hired as ICE agents to go around breaking into people's homes, kidnapping & shooting them

It all boils down to “all those brown people were too dumb to figure out how to build pyramids on their own.”
Erich Von Däniken has died.

A major influence on pseudoarchaeology and conspiracy theory in the U.S., many people are still unaware of the antisemitic and literal Nazi background to this flavor of "ancient astronaut" stuff.

Proof that, if they kill you, it will be for no reason and you will be smeared by the most powerful people on earth.

That’s the kind of thing that they think makes people afraid.
Renee Nicole Good was killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis—now her family has to cope not only with their loss “but with a campaign designed to justify her killing,” Adam Serwer argues:
First the Shooting. Then the Lies.
The Trump administration has perfected the smear campaign.

This is beautiful.
I got extremely up close with a bunch of them earlier and they looked miserable. One was visibly shaking. Every single time they get out of their vehicles it's a madhouse, in a city where every person is their enemy. They're outnumbered 100-1 by people screaming at them in almost incoherent rage
that's not the face of an angry or scary guy that guy is on the verge of tears
