Being on the left this has been my experience of the poltical media ecosystem my entire life. Centrists & libs have been hosing me in pure unrefined shit for as long as I can recall

Personally I'd be pleased to see BBC News disappear entirely. To argue, as many do, that British politics or our news environment would be so much worse without the BBC you have to explain why British politics and news environment is so very bad with the BBC.

An idea whose time has come. It’s the same with ABC news and current affairs.
I'd agree with this. I've spent a long time defending the existence of the BBC, because I genuinely believe in PSB. But I'm no longer convinced at all that BBC News, or the BBC as a whole, is performing any sort of public service (1/2)

The kids are alright
About half of the teens surveyed believe that journalists frequently “make up details, such as quotes” and “pay for sources.” More than a third of teens believe journalists could improve by simply “Telling the truth,” “Fact checking,” and “Not lying.” buff.ly/7vgO0ci
“Biased,” “Boring,” “Chaotic,” and “Bad”: A majority of teens hold negative views of news media, report finds

Nobody will remember:
Your salary
Your promotion
How busy you were
Your Works

People will remember:
Your shattered visage, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things #Ozymandias

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

Male Gen X studio executives remember that the girl they had a crush on once in high school thought that Jared Leto was super cute in My So-Called Life and haven't moved past it.
I will never understand how Jared Leto has remained a working movie star for 30 years despite never starring in a good or successful film

Newsom acting like Trump Lite = bad theatre, seen it before, lacks Trump's perverse charm, speaks to a closed loop

Portland frogs posting up on ICE goons = good theatre, never seen it before, highlights a ridiculous thing by juxtaposing another, kids love it, shareable among all kinds of adult

EVERY president since the 80s has demanded Cuba return Assata Shakur to the US for trial. Trump offered to END the embargo if they returned her.

The Cubans told every president for decades to eat shit and that she will always be welcome to live her life in peace on their land.

Rest well, legend

One of the most important thing to understand about electoral politics in the US.
In a real sense America doesn't have political parties at all. We have two ballot labels controlled by the state and for which the nominal party orgs are mostly irrelevant sideshows. Few of the things people assume a "party" can and should do are things they legally can do in the US.
so much of the discourse on this site is people yelling about an idea of a unitary conception of the democratic party that just doesn't exist
