Na sebevědomý rozklad ministerstev a jejich bezostyšnou oligarchizaci by si Motoristé stěží troufli nebýt MAGA inspirace. Málo ji bereme do hry. Teď nás čeká podobná cesta autoritářství, civilizacionistického rasismu a debilizace. Nemusela by, ale ona to chce i část bývalé vlády.

I’m very unhappy about the aggressive AI upscaling in the Beatles Anthology on Disney Plus. It’s added a whole extra Beatle! Who the fuck is “George”?

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Back in the 1990s Microsoft was known to be a place where "if you were awake, you were working." And people did this because they *wanted* to / were so into the work itself! Management's job was to not mess this up.

Today in 'somehow the Czechs are involved in everything':

Cola di Rienzo, 14th-century Italian popular leader, de facto ruler of Rome, early advocate of Italian unification, ally/enemy of the pope...

There were may years when job hopping every few years was glamorised (“if you stay at the same company for more than 2 years you get underpaid” -there was truth to this in a hot market.)

But feels like we also forgot to appreciate the learning tenure can offer. Like this (now Turbopuffer cofounder)

This is what a judge looks like when a company willfully and knowingly ignores a court order, then lies under oath to cover it up.

Apple did this.

The judge is done playing nice.

"For this Court, there is no second bite at the apple."

Apple will surely regret playing ugly.

Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good.
This is what we now know, and what we have to do about it:🧵1/17

so many games I would play if I could skip the grinding and just play the story
i play a lot of games hacked or with cheats and it's really striking how little actual Game there is in most games once you take out the constant slog of busywork they force you to do

Giant cars really do appeal to guys who are insecure about their masculinity:

"Men whose masculinity was threatened reported viewing the SUV as more desirable, and reported being willing to spend more money to purchase it than did unthreatened men."

REMINDER: Starting this Sunday, January 5, 2025, vehicles entering the Congestion Relief Zone in Manhattan — local streets and avenues at or below 60 Street — will be charged a toll.

Now that I have a book out, I check its reviews and ratings on Amazon and Goodreads periodically. It's mainly thrilling that people are reading it at all, but it's also cool to get some stars and some feedback.

I also occasionally go check a few other particular books to compare. [a thread]
