crowdfunding diplomatofnight in any capacity seems extremely high value
Hello friends, I recently lost my health insurance + benefits & am currently looking at a bill of over $16,000 for which I cannot pay. This would not necessarily be an issue if I were not visually impaired and currently out of full time work, but I am humbly asking for assistance now. Any bit helps.

The Take Care Clause was a byproduct of the lessons learned from the Glorious Revolution that the executive should not be able to dispense with the law promulgated by the legislature. It was not a constitutional provision to empower the executive branch— but to constrain it!

It speaks to the deep moral rot of our intelligentsia that this guy's reaction to learning about the massacre of 10,000 people is to think about how he can use it to own the internet people that annoy him.

This complete collapse of morality and human dignity is so commonplace.
10,000 dead in a few days, and the Yale Daily News calls it genoc

no wait

*touches earpiece*

I'm being informed that the term this time is "mass killings"

Huh. Interesting.
“Individuals on the ground sent a message that reached us Monday morning that 1,200 were dead,” Nathaniel Raymond, the lab’s executive director, said. “By that evening, they said 10,000. By Tuesday, we couldn’t reach them anymore. We assume our ground contacts are dead.”

A president who can tear down 1/3 of the White House can tear down the entire White House. A president who can steal $230M from the treasury can steal $1T from the Treasury. We have both legalized and tolerated Trump’s crimes, so they will only get bigger.

A fun fact is that contemporary political philosophy has something like ~no explanation for why democracy is something ordinary people would or should care about this much
ordinary americans are filming ice agents and trying to save their neighbors. for all the hemming and hawing during 2024 about how democracy was an elite concern, the elites gave up far more quickly than average people.

we don't talk enough about how 4GW as a concept was pioneered by a paleoconservative who essentially wrote a story about. Christian version of Hezbollah fighting off lesbians, female Anglican bishops, and enviromentalists
That and everything in the military not part of that group must conform to Boydist, spreyist, and Lindist thought.

Ringo cowrote that, I believe the real impetus behind the plotline was his co-author Kratman (who is way worse).
Ehhhh, by the mid 2000s he had already written a book (that I read in high school, God help me) about resurrecting Waffen SS soldiers which includes a scene of them heroically beating the crap out of climate protestors.

Heinlein was fascism curious but also into the idea of someone banging their gender flipped clones and had multiple stories where the main character transitioned

He contained multitudes
This is probably coming from my dad giving a bunch of his novels when I was a kid, but I think modern Sci-Fi and fantasy really are missing the old ways of author ideology being professed being kind of insane and contradictory
Purely vibe based, but 20 years ago science fiction felt more progressive coded and fantasy more reactionary coded and now the opposite feels true. Yes, I am aware there are countless counterexamples in both directions. I have no basis in fact for this. Just how the vibes felt to me then and now.

Who would've thought that bombing an Iranian prison would be understood as an attack on the prisoners rather than an attack on the regime?

Not the big brains at the IDF, apparently, to whom every problem can be resolved with a sufficiently large air-dropped bomb.

I want to congratulate leading Democrats’ for their insistence on saying the takeover of DC is a “stunt” or a “distraction.”

It’s a rare trifecta of intellectual failure, political stupidity, and moral obtuseness.

But my lord. If you are a US elected Democratic politician in 2025, and you cannot see that the American Republic is ending, and you have no ideas but the status quo, you are failing our nation.

I understand where you’re coming from but do not agree.

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.
