I think this is part of why I love games like Mörk Borg, where death is not only likely, but inescapable and arguably a mechanical design choice. It’s not “will your character die”, it’s WHEN. It’s as inevitable as the end of the world. It’s prophesied by the text.

The thing I despise most in a TTRPG—more than "immersion," even—is when people play defensively, which is to say they don't do anything if it's even remotely dangerous for their character. It's especially galling in my games, *since your character literally cannot be killed unless you agree to it.*
