Exactly right.
The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.

Can't remember if I already wrote about this, but I recently saw WERCKMEISTER HARMONIES (dir: Bela Tarr), and was abosutely destroyed by this film. What a beautiful, melancholy, soul-cleansing experience. You must experience it.

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.
The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.
